Congressmen are Angry Over Calvert Appointment

I continue to get calls from folks on Capitol Hill about Calvert. Also, several people who managed NRCC backed campaigns last year have volunteered NRCC call lists. On Monday, some big guns will come to fight with us.

Also, more is leaking out about dissatisfaction among lawmakers. The Democrats, the Hill notes, could have stopped the appointment, but are rather delighted by it.

after the GOP Steering Committee picked Calvert for the post, at least three GOP members spoke out in a private conference meeting against Calvert’s appointment, including Reps. Ray Lahood (Ill.), Ginny Brown-Waite (Fla.) and Dave Camp (Mich.), one GOP lawmaker present said.

During the vote, several Republican shouts of “no” prompted the GOP to call for a show of hands, which indicated a lopsided vote in favor of Calvert’s appointment, according to several GOP sources present. There was an objection to confirming the appointment by a show of hands, and at least one member called for a secret-ballot vote. But that move would have required a unanimous agreement, and at least one member objected. As a result, the effort failed, the sources said.

This week, some GOP members were still lamenting the decision.

“It’s like we didn’t learn anything from last year,” one GOP lawmaker said, referring to the November elections and the loss of the party’s majority control.

And as the momentum grows, Calvert is trying to quell the issue. But it won't help him.

Finally, something that is moving in the right direction!

"Wubbies World" - MSgt, U.S. Air Force (Retired): "Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know." -Jer 33:3-

I'm not familiar with that world, but it certainly doesn't seem ethical to me. It would certainly be ironic to use unethical means to protest the ethics of a Congressman.

I'd say obtaining them by having the NRCC give them to you would be legal means.

Unethical? You might be able to make a case for it, but using a list that the NRCC had provided for Republican political purposes to make calls for Republican political purposes would not seem unethical to me. Maybe if the NRCC had some specific usage restrictions placed upon the call lists when they were given out, would drop them into an "unethical to use" category if they were used outside those restrictions.

Socialism doesn't work. It looks nice on paper, but it's been tried and it's failed miserably every time (usually accompanied by widespread death and suffering).
Proud member of the V.R.W.C.

that it was people who used to work for NRCC (paid or volunteer - doubt that matters) who were going to supply it, not the NRCC itself. I certainly doubt the NRCC would make any phone lists available for this purpose!

I can understand the Democrats' eagerness to keep Calvert around. Talk about Slow Bleed!

But the Republicans? Does Calvert have dirt on some of them, something he can use whenever they mention his prostitution bust?
