Erick's Double Dog Dare to RedState Readers

The GOP is never going to take seriously your complaints about immigration.  They don't take you seriously.  How unserious do they treat you?

So unseriously that the NRCC is having a fundraiser for Ken Calvert with special guest Jerry Lewis.  They may just share stories about about the FBI seizing their records.

And how embarrased is the NRCC?  When I reported on the fundraiser, they took down all the information.  Nonetheless, the event is still on.

Ken Calvert's fundraiser will be at the Capitol Hill Club at 300 First Street, S.E.  It'll be at 6:00 p.m. tonight in room 4 on the 3rd floor.

I double dog dare you to print out copies of Ken Calvert's arrest report and hand them out to the folks going to the party.

In the meantime, call Tom Cole and remind him that the NRCC will get not one dime.  Cole's number is (202) 225-6165.

Take note my godd NRCC friends; I am probably one of the more forgiving posters on this site.

That said, this type of activity and support, which will further harm the party receives no furtherance across even the most forgiving party faithful.

I am on the phone to Mr. Cole now, one of the few calls I have been inspired to make.

I'm one to forgive all sorts of transgressions in the interest of GOP votes, but this is beyond the pale. This is so obscene it's self-parody!
Are their constituents comatose?

Beth

(I've always liked your blog. I never knew you read Redstate, but I see you've been here a year and a half.)

But to me this seems like an embarrassing act of political theater that will win nothing for anyone. You have been very effective in making your displeasure known but doing so in a relatively reasonable manner. This seems likely to scrap that and your credibility in the process. There are better ways to do this than harrassing donors.

While I see your point and thought of that in advance, I think some street theater is needed to embarrass these guys.

As we try to work our way towards a new majority promoting candidates such as Mr. Calvert will be a drag on that effort.

I am willing to give Mr. Calvert a significant “pass” on most of his behavior. Forgiveness is certainly a primary principal of mine and I absolutely believe in second chances.

Nonetheless, now was not the time to give Mr. Calvert that chance, especially not in a position that is central to our rebuilding efforts, where the mere appearance of impropriety gets significant coverage.

So what does it say about the NRCC future support of candidates when someone such as Mr. Calvert is championed? To me it says they will not see any more funds if such uninspired and seemingly unreasonable vetting becomes a modus operandi.

There is much damage that is done to the party by some of the other activities which with I do not personally agree. However, I am sorry to say this is not one of those exercises.

giving Calvert more opportunities to bury earmarks in legislation that personally benefits him or do you mean looking the other way when he picks up more hookers? I'm all for forgiveness but he has not confessed that either behavior was inappropriate - and that's the first step. The NRCC, by supporting him, is also condoning his behavior - UNSAT. We will never rebuild a majority with Calvert types and their piggish behavior in leadership positions. Same goes for the NRCC - seems we need to put a few of those folks on the unemployment line also.
Eric's right on this one - it's unfortunate, but necessary.

That's overated bad theater and usually suspect. My point is he need to rebuild credibility through action.

In the interim, Calvert should be in a holding pattern, not a leadership position.

So I am guessing we mostly agree.

as a change for the better. They want to see scalps taken from crooks who abuse their positions of power. A holding pattern will be seen as more of the same, or the crooks who haven't been fingered yet protecting one of their own. That was pretty much clear in the last election. Which means Erick is correct, we take Calvert's scalp or we lose more seats next election, because the MSM will highlight Calvert, while they continue to cover for Murtha, Reid, and Pelosi.

I freaking love street theater. The crazier, the better. Maybe you should get somebody to dress up as a hooker in front of NRCC and carry around a sign that says, "Ken Calvert owes me money."

I had considered that. Pimps, hoes, and FBI agents.

when I was convention chair away to charity.

Oh well, I only get off work tonight at 6:00pm, so I wouldn't have made it anyway.

Really, all you will need is to convince one of the local 'professional' people to carry a sign.

Not a constituent. In fairness, the staffer did give me the number to the NRCC, so it wasn't a total blow-off.

I'm stunned at the cavalier attitude the NRCC apparently has toward us, the voters.

Beth

I received the same deal from a very young staffer earlier today. A friend of mine that called later said he was simply asked; what state are you from?
(no forwarding NRCC number)

They must be getting tired of the calls. Remedy? Call more until they get the message.

But. But. But. CLINTON DID IT!!!

That being said, if you want REAL political theater, hire Monica Lewinsky to interview Calvert.

Finally, I consider Calvert's sexual life off-limits save for entertainment value; it's his specific policy stances that should be considered when it comes to supporting him or not. E.g., where is he on victimless crimes?

It's also a slippery slope to start considering the morality of the personal lives of many current GOP candidates. A little adultery here, a few divorces there. Those who live in glass houses . . .

Now, watch this drive.

well I think we all would if what he was doing was not also against the law, same rules applied to Clinton, it was not the act it was the law breaking, jeez.

It's just a shame that the Democrat party and the MSM don't agree with you if it helps them at election time!

"Wubbies World" - MSgt, U.S. Air Force (Retired): "Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know." -Jer 33:3-

Unless you're ready to call Red State part of the MSM, consider that the issue is being considered to make fun of Calvert's sexual indiscretions in this forum, not on CNN. Seems like some Red Staters (at least in this case) are operating EXACTLY in the way you are decrying.

Do you care about what the man stands for? How he votes? Of course you do. So attack those things and you maintain the high ground. Attack him personally (and this is about as personal as you can get) and you've joined the pack.

That being said, I still find the entertainment value in the police report priceless in a sort of NATIONAL ENQUIRER kind of way. I just don't use the NATIONAL ENQUIRER to inform my politics (and I'm not saying you do either).

Now, watch this drive.

1. Better a little embarrassment coming from within GOP ranks now than to allow Calvert to rise to prominence only to be rightfully taken down MORE PUBLICLY later

2. The Decency Wing of the GOP needs to exert itself. "Values Voters" will no longer allow the GOP candidate to use the old fallback phrase of "Well, The Dems ARE WORSE". Less Sleazy is not good enough.

***And IF you think that even though Ken Calvert is reprehensible but 'He's One of Us' and therefore more honorable than ANY DEMOCRAT. Good for you, Feel the Comfort!
But that's not going to sell to a nation of born again skeptics.

I wrote Cole a letter the other day. I will include a copy of Calvert's arrest report in the envelope when I mail it this weekend.

P.S. Erick is there anything you can do to make the arrest report more printer friendly?

And fax them to my republican representatives (house and senate)

I will also note that I did the same for my Deocratic Senator with the note "Keep pushing the culture of corruption"

Standing around outside a political gathering and handing out pamphlets? This reeks of protesting liberals. Count me out.

If the protestors don't try to disrupt things, are respectful of those around them, and aren't pushing a variety of irrelevant issues, then it's nothing at all like a lefty protest.

So make sure not to talk about peripheral issues like immigration, guys!

Run like Reagan!

I'm of the mindset that our representatives take us seriously only when they fear what we'll do if they don't listen; like getting tossed. I don't think handing out pamphlets is going to instill fear in anybody.

Make these guys afraid of losing financial support for their re-election campaigns, which they might do if these flyers disgust some potential donors, and you're getting somewhere.

Run like Reagan!

It could cost them some contributions...you're right.

That is a depressing thought if you consider that the entire voting population is only around 120 to 130 million persons.

If there is one thing I admire about the left and one thing they are much better at than the right, is organized activism.

The DOUBLE WHAMMY. The left has both the MSM on their side AND they are better organized activists.

The left owns the lions share of distribution not unlike a few music labels controlled the music distribution. We need a new paradigm to shatter the old guard and level the playing field.

The right is at a severe disadvantage all the time. That is why we need to have a much cleaner record because each blip gets magnified tremendously.

We need to learn from the left that he who yells early, yells the loudest, and yells the most often, gets the attention.

Real change requires real change. -Newt Gingrich
