So I was pretty tough on Alberto Gonzales in this post. But I have to say that I stand by every word. Gonzales may be a nice enough guy but he is in well over his head as Attorney General. He was, from the very beginning, the wrong person to head the Justice Department.
And of course, if this story is true, one may come to the natural conclusion that the Attorney General's singular brand of incompetence and disregard for professionalism have infected the Justice Department in general. I shudder to think what might happen to any law firm associate who behaved in the thoroughly unprofessional manner that the Justice Department official indicated in the post is alleged to have done. I also shudder to think that such behavior may very well be the natural consequence of having an Attorney General who doesn't exactly inspire underlings to perform their jobs in a laudable and competent fashion.
To be sure, the overwhelming majority of people at Main Justice are smart, honorable and devoted to their jobs. But there appear to be more than a few bad apples in the bunch as well. And forgive my cynicism, but I kind of doubt that they live in fear of reprimands from the top right about now.

Your quotation marks indicate that you question the conservative credentials of the poster, based on your disagreement over the Attorney General, yes?
So tell me, am I also a traitor to my party for pointing out, as I did previously, Alberto Gonzales' obvious hostility toward the second amendment?
"Traitor to my party..."
See if you can avoid putting words into my mouth unless you want to argue with yourself taking both sides. I have already stated, for the record, that I don't think much of Gonzales. However I think it would be a mistake to toss him overboard to appease angry Democrats. And to use a fumbled copy process run by a lower level staffer as evidence that he has to go strikes me as frankly ridiculous.
As to "traitor to my party", those are your words not mine. I would not even consider using such inflammatory rhetoric over such a petty disagreement. And in my opinion, neither should you.
I don't want to toss Gonzales to appease anyone. I want to toss him because he is utterly and completely incompetent.
I trust that's clear now.

I'm sure we can count on "Red" State to be on top of these kinds of riveting stories about AG Gonzales' insufficient attention to the copying functions in the Justice Department.
We'll do our best for you. Thanks for reading.

First, let me be patently clear I am not seeking an argument. More clearly and correctly, it is specific elucidation of the rampant incompetency charge which continues to be recycled ad nauseum. Furthermore, how this alleged “incompetency” departs substantially from any past AG’s management of a department where plausible deniability seems to come with the job description. This putative document “scandal” seems just the latest outcry from legal purist’s intent on pointing out amateurish mistakes and therefore “systemic” maladroitness.
Please, oh please, tell me this is more than “gee, ya know those Rice graduates, wink, wink, nod”, “he hardly represents Harvard Law” or futher recitation of hand wringing on some law blogs.
exempli gratia here is a good explanation of the Ashcroft hospital incident, which appears to speak very adroitly to facts and circumstances; not emotion or personal feelings. Based on this account, calls for a perjury investigation are seen for what they are; relatively groundless and nothing more than political cackling.
I respect your right to editorialize but IMO, this is all a waste of bandwidth.

..and certainly more tangible content than I have seen thus far.

Well I'm certainly convinced now. Why wasn't the AG there in person ensuring that the documents were copied correctly? What next, scandalous revelations that the toner cartridges are not being properly recycled?
