Mr. (acting) President, Pardon This Man!

It's just a thought -- but, via the 25th Amendment, Acting President Cheney would be within his Constitutional bounds to issue a full pardon of his Chief of Staff Scooter Libby tomorrow...wouldn't he?

As we've discussed in the past, I'm no more convinced than you are that Mr. Libby deserves a pardon for his actions.

I'm just throwing out the hypothetical. It is, after all, Friday :-)

I would love it, heads exploding everywhere! Make it a pay-per-view event and have Helen Thomas in the front row.

just for the sheer explosion on the leftist websites I would pay $100.00 and we can than donate that money to, I don't care pick somewhere:-)

Providing double pleasure: (1)watching the lefty meltdown (and not just the nutroots -- we'd have it on the Senate floor too!), which I guarantee would be like Krakatoa, and (2) Sending 'our' guy to Iraq to give some moral support to the troops and get some truthful reporting out of there.

It's war -- so when can we start shooting back at the enemy Democrats?

That's just not the troll-bait that Libby is ;-)

In all honesty, the two imprisoned border patrol agents are currently serving as a clear warning to two groups: (1) Border Patrol agents, who are being shown that they are not allowed to do the enforcement part of their jobs, period (or to defend themselves), and (2) Coyotes/Border-Crossers/etc., who are being shown that they are the ones the President will support in such a situation, and that they will be rewarded (rather than stopped -- let alone punished) for continuing illegal activity.

Additionally....I apologize for the threadjack....And now, back to our original programming....

"I formally announce my support and encourage President Cheney to grant I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby a full pardon." ;)

but I'm more inclined to believe that it has more to do with the complete lack of adult supervision in the GWB Administration than in anything meant to show anyone anything. That said, GWB could suddently do a 180 and order a crackdown on the border, and nothing much would happen. Every supervisor, manager, and even line agent in ICE is looking at a potential Democrat boss in '09 and that boss being vetted by La Raza and the ACLU. You'd better have your retirement vested and your house paid off if you have any thoughts of serious border enforcement, because the Democrats will come in with a hit list that goes down to the janitors in ICE/DHS.

In Vino Veritas

This is probably true of most "politicized" departments. They aren't going to do too much until they find out "which way the wind is blowing." I have seen "rank and file" types sit on their hands, un-responsive to memos from political appointees. They will need more time, or more clarification.

What will be interesting is how much the Pentagon military brass will notice the lack of adult supervision? There are hundreds of civilian political appointees in the Defense Department.
I hope they have most of their requisitions filled out. It often takes 24 months to get something procured.

Anyone in the DOD who hasn't already submitted their ULBs (Unified Legislative and Budgeting process) will be SOL for at least two years, regardless of who is elected in '08. Let's hope our future SecDef doesn't need any changes in the law during that time.

would be well within the scope of his “new-found” executive powers to commute the prison sentences of former border agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean.

There is bipartisan support for such action in the US Senate.

Republican Sen. John Cornyn of Texas and a Democratic colleague today urged President Bush to commute the sentences of two Border Patrol agents imprisoned for shooting a fleeing Mexican drug smuggler and concealing evidence.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California and Cornyn sent Bush a letter asking for clemency a day after a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing where they criticized the federal prosecution of Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos as excessive.

"We believe that this is a case of prosecutorial overreaching, and to allow Agents Ramos and Compean to serve more than a decade in prison would represent a serious miscarriage of justice," they wrote.

"We urge you to commute their prison sentences immediately."

I disagree with the premise of the pardons, but from a pure entertainment point of view, it would be priceless.

Harry Reid and Nasty Nancy's heads would spin and green pea soup would be spewed.

yes, it would be very cool (lefty reaction/heads exploding) , but Cheney would never do it. (and probably shouldn't as a matter of principle)

Cheney has no principles. Except those principals at Halliburton.

Oh he has the principals he made at Halliburton, plus the interest.

Run like Reagan!
