So, as I'm sure everyone here knows by now, I'm pretty ambivalent about the war at this point. I didn't sign the pledge which said we'd throw anybody who voted for one of these resolutions overboard, and I don't think doing so is such a good idea. To show you how little I've been following this story, I had no idea anything was going on today until one of the other contributors here reminded me that something was going on today.
So, I went over to CNN to get a rundown of what happened today, and what I found was probably the most stupendous piece of bias I have ever seen in anything that has tried to pass itself off as "news," ever. And that is really saying something. We took a screenshot of it, in case somebody gets wise and takes it down, but the paragraph heading opening paragraph and lead item over there right now is this:
GOP tactic blocks Iraq debate
As Democrats were getting ready to debate what was wrong with President Bush's plan to send additional troops to Iraq, Republicans managed to block the resolution. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid accused Republicans of giving Bush a "green light." "You can run, but you can't hide," Reid said. "We are going to debate Iraq."
Wow. Just wow. If anyone's interested and has the time, I'd love some screenshots of CNN's coverage of, say, the judicial filibuster fight circa 2005... just for purposes of comparison. I'm willing to bet it'd be very.. interesting.

I'll take you up on that, Leon.
I don't think I can paste a screen shot into a comment, but here's a link to one such article and its opening sentences.

Democrats vow fight on Pickering
Judge's renomination surprises many

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Senate Democrats vowed Wednesday to block the elevation of Charles Pickering to a federal appeals court, one day after President Bush renominated the Mississippi judge and 30 others who had failed to win confirmation under the previous Democratic-controlled Senate.
"I'm prepared to do everything I can to stop the nomination of Justice Pickering," said Sen. Charles Schumer, D-New York, who sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee. "We can do a lot better."
The part about how they tied him to Lott's doofus remark. I'm thinking specifically, though, about some of the stories covering the filibuster fight right before the "Gang of 14" appeared.

But I did notice how when the Dems filibuster, CNN gives them a big rah-rah headline, like "Dems vow fight." For the GOP, its a "tactic [blocking] debate." I'm surprised they didn't go a step further and call it "a scheme." Or maybe just call a spade a spade: "a low-down and dirty GOP scheme." ;)
BTW, I thought bills and resolutions were the traditionally appropriate place to utilize a filibuster, unlike judicial nominations.
Need to save this for the next time my state legislature debates shield laws.

I'm wondering if the headline off the AP wire is that way, to be honest. Wouldn't surprise me, really.
"I could explain, but that would be very long, very convoluted, and make you look very stupid. Nobody wants that... except maybe me."
this is what the filibuster SHOULD be used for, unlike the bastardized filibuster the Dems waged on judges and the media carried their water on
If CNN ever presented the whole truth, on a story like this, they might get unfairly tagged as being pro-American-military. Heaven forbid! There goes their "special" International access. They'll always play it "safe" in that regard. Heaven forbid they get tagged pro-American.
They disseminate enemy propaganda. For what happens of significance each day see Rush's show and Hewitt's blog.
At one point on their main page on Super Bowl Sunday, they were proclaiming that the Baltimore Colts were playing the Chicago Bears in Super Bowl XLI.

You know, the riots and murders and theft and oppression and panic that occurred in the SuperDome. Oh, wait- didn't happen.
I have a good screenshot, with the headline (you could also look it up on CNN's website) "GOP sets up showdown over Alito." Clearly no bias.

That just adds to it. The troops firing a mortar to blow something up, just like the GOP.
