Drooling Over Foley
By Dan McLaughlin Posted in Liberals — Comments (20) / Email this page » / Leave a comment »
The first funny thing about seeing the mask drop and the real politics of people high and low in the Mainstream Media revealed is how regularly these sorts of things show not just liberalism, but nasty, gloating, scornful leftism of the most unappealing sort - the very antithesis of the kind of attitude one would want from even a fair-minded journal of liberal opinion, let alone a news source that at least pretends to be objective.
The second funny thing is we get revelations of this nature because people employed by news organizations are apparently unaware that things they say or do could be...well, newsworthy. And they're not always real bright about covering their tracks.
With that in mind, let us savor this email received recently by the Republican National Committee from an email address at CBS News:
From: Cammisa, Vincent [mailto: VAC@cbsnews.com]
Sent: Wednesday, October 04, 2006 5:34 PM
To: Internships
Subject: Perverted Internship ProgramPlease send me information on how I can become an intern for some perverted, phony family-values Congressman. I know there's no shortage of Republican hypocrites on the Hill, so please rush me the info ASAP. And don't forget to keep covering-up your dirty little secrets, it makes great fodder for your enemies.
Sincerely,
Vinny Cammisa
Our enemies, indeed. At least they identify themselves by name, employer and email address.
Oh, and one more question: Would Edward R. Murrow have sent that email?
UPDATE: CBS responds.

Who is Vinny Cammisa? Why does this mean anything?
"There are those who look at things the way they are, and ask why... I dream of things that never were and ask why not." George Bernard Shaw
...to make personal attacks on a political organization. That was just dumb. What made it terminally dumb is that the work email was issued by a supposedly-neutral media organization. Said organization is probably getting a call right now to inquire whether Mr. Cammisa's views represent the official opinion of CBS News; and if not, then under what circumstances should emails originating from cbsnews.com should be accepted as being official?
The Fuzzy Puppy of the VRWC.
But we have no idea who this guy is. For all we know he is nothing more than an intern or a troublemaker. Heck the entire email could be a complete fake since it takes about 5 seconds to fake a return receipt address.
Assuming that Carmmisa is a real person and wrote this email then I suspect that he won't be long for the world of CBS News.
But to expand this email into an indictment of CBS News seems a bit far fetched.

this email, standing on it's own, would never support an indictment of bias against CBS. However, when you look at CBS' history it fits right in. Rather (no pun intended) than an "indictment" of CBS, it is simply proof that at CBS it's business as ususal on the far left side of life.

I would hazard to guess that Redstate is savvy enough to check the email header for the true origin before posting this.
Retire Lindsey Graham. Support Thomas Ravenel for Senate 2008
CBS employees. The Foley scandal is a very legitimate story, but this shows an agenda by some at CBS to make it larger than it really is.
In some ways we're lucky that the Foley story came up. It takes attention away from Iraq, Abramoff, Ney, Cunningham, etc.

First, and on an unrelated note, I am so glad that RedState among other responsible conservative voices didn't buy into the feeding frenzy to sack Hastert and other leaders as a symbolic gesture. This email explains, in part, why that would have been suicidal.
As to the substance of your blog, yes, these tidbits are newsworthy and they almost always confirm our worst opinions about the MSM. Given the relative decline of the MSM vis a vis the new media, I imagine this nasty hyperpatisanship will grow worse with each ratings and circulation decline.
Would Murrow have sent that email? I don't know (Cronkite certainly would have). But the nice thing is that if Murrow had sent that email today, it might have been discovered and exposed on outlets that didn't exist in his day.
Things may appear gloomy (probably gloomier than they actually are) right now, but there are things that should steel our resolve. Among them: outrages like Ms. Camissa's email can be exposed to show the MSM for what it is. Perhaps I am naive, but I still think this election can be salvaged because those reports that are deceptive or false can be exposed in a nanosecond.
He would have had a smoke instead.
And fluttering hagiographers would have praised him for his wisdom and character.
To answer your question as to who this guy is, he is being groomed as the future CBS News anchor. He has all the credentials, nastiness, stupidity, and a passion for splitting his morality along party lines.
"a man's admiration for absolute government is proportinate to the contempt he feels for those around him". Tocqueville
Being in charge of a CBS News outfit that ran vicious hatchet job attacks on both Joe McCarthy in the mid-50's and Richard Nixon in the early 60's (and, to tie the two together, they even had Alger Hiss speak as an analyst on the anti-Nixon screed), I think Murrow would've not only sent the email, but would've publicly broadcasted it himself over CBS.
"I could explain, but that would be very long, very convoluted, and make you look very stupid. Nobody wants that... except maybe me."
But the standards have fallen some since then.
Also: the fact that McCarthy was sometimes right is no reason to weep for him. If ever a man deserved a hatchet job...
"No compromise with the main purpose, no peace till victory, no pact with unrepentant wrong." - Winston Churchill
While there's no argueing that this guy is misusing his work e-mail, don't you think it's just a BIT much to insinuate that this e-mail shows the " real politics of people high and low in the Mainstream Media revealed is how regularly these sorts of things show not just liberalism, but nasty, gloating, scornful leftism of the most unappealing sort "?
I mean, if THIS is the level of "proof" you need, don't you think ya might wanna raise the bar, and not come off as grasping at every straw that will help detract from the original issue?
because you obviously aren't real bright, given your first comment. This email is not a "level of 'proof'", it's simply one more pebble on the pile.
Move out of your cave into the real world and you'll understand. Maybe.

You right-wing bullies have no limits don't you? Just because one employee of an organization disses you doesn't mean the entire organization shares that one employee's views.
Don't tell CBS News to fire Vinny Cammisa. You people need to get a sense of humor.
[email redacted. You never know. - Moe Lane]
Look, I'll even tell you a joke:
Knock, knock.
"Who's there?"
(flushing sound)
Not you.
(pause)
Guess you had to have been there.
