Harry Reid Still Captains The Ship Of Fools

Was he tazed over the Thanksgiving Break?

I'm literally speechless (well, not blogless of course, but absolutely speechless)now that I've read THIS piece at the Politico which suggests Harry Reid believes not ONLY that the surge isn't working, but that:

"We're involved, still, in an intractable civil war."

As one of my oldest and most favored sayings goes...I used to be disgusted, now I'm just amused.

Really Harry...are you feeling ok man? You might want to get that checked, before it progresses beyond modern medicine's ability to heal you up and make you all better.

As Harry opens the next volley of foolishness in the Senate after the holiday break, hell-bent on keeping up the battle to force a withdrawal and blackmail the President by withholding troop funding, he brings us this little gem of insight about military budgets:

Reid said Monday that the Senate still might take up a war funding bill before Christmas, and Democrats were still trying to find a compromise so it doesn't look like they've caved in to the White House on troop funding. Democrats are considering tweaking troop withdrawal language to lure a few more GOP supporters so the Senate could achieve a 60-vote filibuster-proof margin.

"I think we'll address war funding this month," Reid said.
[...]
Reid also accused President Bush of bluffing about the potential layoffs of 100,000 Pentagon employees if the war funding doesn't come through immediately. Bush says civilian employees will be furloughed because the Pentagon will have to pull from regular accounts to fund the war due to the Democrats' intransigence on Iraq funding.

Reid says that's just not true, adding that Secretary of Defense Robert Gates assured the Senate that the Army and Marines have month through the end of February.

The man is delirious. I 'think' we'll address it? Don't want to look like you caved to Bush? Good God man...how about caving to facts and reality? How DID you make Majority Leader Squishy Harry? Even Okinawa Jack knows when it's time to shift gears...

More below the fold...

McConnel offered this:

McConnell says negotiations on war funding, have heated up in recent days, and suggested that the $50 billion "bridge" funding could be rolled into one giant omnibus spending package before the end of the year.

Omnibus package equals "gimme my earmarks and I'll give you your darned war money" and everyone sees very clearly through that little game.

I'm reminded of a passage in an old song here:

What kind of clown am I?
What do I know of life?
Why can't I cast away the mask of play
and live my life?

Harry is having some real trouble with reality. And, if ever there was proof that he could care less about doing what's right while he busies himself with getting more MoveOn and Code Pink money, it's in this little passage:

"He's not leveling with the American people," Reid said. "The Army has enough money until the first of March."

Wow. So, we'll take it up in December. They don't need it til March. The surge isn't working but we'll keep funding it so long as you stop doing it.

My head is spinning, but I want whatever it is that man smoked while he was eating Thanksgiving turkey.

Reid can't be this dumb. I have to believe (else I question the entire system of government we have) that he is doing this to keep the MoveOn checkbooks open and the Soros money flowing into Democratic coffers and interest groups.

The simple fact is that not one of his members up for re-election is in danger of losing his or her seat because they were insufficiently liberal on the war. If anything, it would be red state Senators who have already acquiesced to MoveOn too much who would be troubled.

I mean, really, is Dick Durbin facing such a strong challenge that he needs to insure that the rabid nutters are 100% happy with him to keep his seat.

Reid's position will actually serve to make more seats reachable for us. He continues to put Senators like Max Baucus, Mary Landrieu and Tim Johnson in a bind when he forces them to cast ridiculous votes that even a growing number of ordinary Americans see as ridiculous.

It's not too late for us to recruit serious challengers in places like SD and MT. They're not expensive races to run and we do have people with sufficient statewide name recognition that these guys have to continue to watch out lest they look to out-of-step with their more conservative constituents.

... for the "wisdom" of our political opponents.

Proof that the Republican Party is the Party of Adults.

I wish Harry a very nice long life... of retirement.

that 2008 will be a good year for the Republicans.

The Democrats are going to continue to stick to an untennable Iraq position. They have to. They are invested in it, and Iraq is complicated enough that anyone can find anything they want it in. It won't necessarily be the truth though.

If Dems like Reid want to continue to claim that we are in a civil war despite every report to the opposite the hole will continue to get deeper. Think about this. Petraeus will report in March. The situation will be even better by then. What exactly will the Reps in the Senate say then? Do you have any idea how ridiculous they will sound in March if their rhetoric is the same as it is now?

Always tell the truth, George; it's the easiest thing to remember.

Haystack, brother, I'd be right there with you laughing and blowing milk out of my nose if we weren't talking about the Senate Majority Leader of the United States.

Can you still gavel the Senate into session while wearing a straight jacket?

That task actually falls to the PResident of the Senate (Cheney) or, in his absent the President Pro Tem - currently Grand Dragon Byrd. Reid needn't be present, and has no formal function in the process of opening a day's session.

Actually, I'd love to see the dynamic if Cheney spent a few days actuallyin the chair presiding over the Senate (as is his right at any time).

Hey - is Dingy Harry planning to have a pro forma session on Christmas Day just to keep the President from making recess appointments again? If he doesn't all he did was buy a month - Bush could still make the appointments and they would be effective for just as long as if they had been made at Thanksgiving.

The unacceptable cliff is in sight. Full speed ahead says dingy, with his blinkers on. By the time the lay-offs start, it will be over for dingy. Ask Newt how that went.

It's now just funny. Even the media parrot can no longer protect the Democrat ship of fools.

CBDR as we used to call it in the Navy for a risk of collision contact. That contact for Harry Reid is his Senate career. There's just no quit in that guy when it comes to quitting.

They can't keep this up for long. This is the thing about war politics, it is determined in the field, not in the Senate. The longer they keep this up, the easier it will be to label them "Al Qaida's Last Hope" or AQW - Al Qaida in Washington. At some point, the barbs will start to bite ...

I don't watch much if any news but when I do catch clips of Reid, he is as mumbly and inarticulate as it is possible for an adult and high-ranking politician to be. And they make fun of Bush's speech??? Puhleeeze! Nancy's not much better a speaker and Teddy is a 50/50 chance of sounding drunk/insane or just a gumflapper. There is hardly a decent speaker (no pun intended) among the Dems leaders.

Nevermind the content of what Reid says. That really is idiotic. Those Nevadans must be so proud!

You may not be interested in war, but war is interested in you.

And that says it all--it's not about doing the jobs they got elected to do, it's not about doing what's right for the country and for our troops. It's ALL about appearances. There are more empty suits (and dresses) on Capitol Hill than are hanging in any given department store.

jester and or fool...if it were not such as serious issue it might well be amusing.

This man and I use the term loosely is the true definition of a TRAITOR.
