I wonder how many people here tonight remember Ned Lamont...
...he never was a Senator.

With precisely the sincere apologies to Tom Lehrer that he'd expect from an unrepentant member of the Republican Party; I'd feel worse about it, but then the so-and-so deliberately made sure that everyone thought that he was dead and so was unable to answer fan mail. Which I respect.
Anyway, the proximate cause of this was Jason Zengerle's where-are-they-now article (subscription required) on Ned Lamont. Just imagine: in an alternate universe there may be people singing what follows beyond the fold right now*...
(To the tune of Whatever Beccame of Hubert?)
Whatever became of Lamont?
Has anyone heard from Ned?
Once so proud of the crowd,
But the silence is loud
Now that the Kos Kids have fled.
Once a symbol of antiwar passion
Ah, but now he's so quite out of fashion -
Second place is a hard cross to bear
When no one but you is still there.
"We must protest, in manner ribald!"
Said the holdout Ned backers;
Then Congress flipped, [in] spite of Diebold
So they all left, the slackers.
(Hey, it rhymed.)
Whatever became of you, Lamont?
You've kept yourself quite underground;
Are you mad? Are you drunk?
Are you still in your funk
At the way Hamsher ran you aground?
Does Joseph, with what could be called a dark joy,
Take time from his schedule to torment the goy?
Do you wince when they ask you "What's new?"
Lamont, what happened to you?

*Or... not.

But it did make me laugh :)
I was trying to remember his name earlier in the day. I kept thinking that guy who ran against lieberman.
I suspect in a couple of years Lamont will refer to himself as that guy who ran against lieberman.

For about thirty seconds I actually thought Lamont was some obscure Republican. The irony did not go unappreciated.

I think that even though Mr. Lehrer is an unrepentent liberal Democrat, that he would appreciate parodies like this. After all, he never was comfortable with the whole protest movement concept (see: _The Folk Song Army_ and _Smut_); he might well be as disgusted with the whole moveon.org-type crowd as we are.

A Tom Lehrer filk...now THAT'S entertainment. I'm not too sure that he would have been that upset. After all he poked fun at everyone.
