More Objective Reporting from the Associated Press

The Associated Press has an interesting story today on Robert Byrd, who Elizabeth Dole couldn't find a viable challenger for. The article notes, inter alia, that he can't remember the names of his colleagues, frequently loses his place while reading, and can't keep track of what is going on around him. None of this is surprising, exactly, to anyone who has followed him over the last couple of years.
I wanted to draw your attention to the following jaw-dropper from the article:
Since the war's outset, he has ranked among Bush's harshest critics, a role that endeared him to many liberals and proved again that a skillful politician can remake his image if he stays in office long enough. His political origins were certainly conservative, including a stint in the Ku Klux Klan — membership for which Byrd has repeatedly apologized. His 14-hour filibuster of civil rights legislation in 1964 was among the longest in Senate history.
A more accurate paragraph would simply note that his political origins were certainly Democratic, and never really changed much. I personally just find it amazing that major media outlets continue to wonder why most of America refuses to read their trash-masquerading-as-news anymore.

Is not conservative?
Conservative is a relativistic term, denoting whichever viewpoint supports tradition.
Lest we forget, slavery traces its roots back to prehistory. The bible supports slavery. Numerous amerind tribes practiced slavery. Slavery is historically common, and thus traditional.
May you have a hundred sons, and may they all be just like you.
As a dictionary term, might be what you say it is.
But 'Conservative' in 20th-and-21st century American politics is fairly well-defined, and does not (to put it mildly) support institutionalized racial discrimination. That is a feature of leftism -- dividing people by classes, races, and creeds.
Lest we forget, genocide traces its roots back to prehistory. The bible supports genocide . Numerous amerind tribes practiced genocide . Genocide is historically common, and thus traditional.
Ain't that cute? I used your definition of conservatism.
It's war -- so when can we start shooting back at the enemy Democrats?

Environmentalism is conservative
So are small plot farmers and the Amish.
Now are you a conservative or not?
May you have a hundred sons, and may they all be just like you.
Or are you just here to make random pointless and meaningless comments?

the historic links between the KKK and the Democratic Party?
Do you know which party in congress pushed for passage of the self same Civil Rights Act? Do you know which party overwhelmingly voted against it?
Do you have any clue what you are talking about?
Socialism doesn't work. It looks nice on paper, but it's been tried and it's failed miserably every time (usually accompanied by widespread death and suffering).

What is truly fascinating is I can not even begin to trace the logic which brings one to say the movement against Civil Rights, including the KKK, is conservative. At best this is certainly liberal slaver, surreptitiously disguised as reporting. It is literary license so out of step with reality, anyone that can read history should be overtly insulted. At best, worthy of retraction.
Trying to bedaub Conservatism as a party in this grotesque nonsense is contra factual, mythylogical pablum. History shows this is fully attributed to liberal-Democrat Party antics performed during the Civil Rights era. Certainly, their actions in delaying such common sense, righteous pursuits cost the lives of many. Let’s see them write about that and while their at it reconcile why on Earth the current base supports them; now that would be a story.

The scary thing is that a lot of people who read this won't know any better because they'll believe anything they see/hear in the drive-by media. It reminds me of a girl at work who told me that she just KNEW that man-made global warming was true because she "saw it on CNN" and "in Al Gore's movie". No critical thinking required. I have to admit though, I was the same way in my early 20's.

Raese had a ton of money to spend, and had come a hair's breadth away from winning a previous Senate race in WV.
There are always recruiting failures (look at OR and MN for Dems this year -- and possibly NH), but I'm not sure failing to get Capito or Ireland to run against an institution like Byrd really counts as one.

The press gets more and more blatantly leftist -- and since they have to insist that it's not so (news must be neutral and dispassionate), their self-defense gets more and more comical.
Byrd's (mythical) conservative roots, as evidenced by his active membership in the KKK, and his filibustering of civil rights legislation.
Wow.
