Except that Barack Obama apparently has less respect for the country he hopes to lead than do Bill Richardson and Mrs. Bill Clinton

during the national anthem.
I happen to be a guy who doesn’t get up every morning hating my country. Roger Ailes
During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. Men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171
How is that for a fact!
I thought it was only for the pledge.
Still...c'mon guys. Front page worthy?

I only push this because you continue to push by criticizing the diary. Have you ever been to a baseball game or major non Democrat public function?
Molon Labe!
And half of the people don't cover there hearts. In fact, IIRC, most don't.
Which is why I assumed it wasn't appropriate. Heck, maybe it's because I thought people were idiots and mistaking it for the pledge, IDK.

This guy wants to be the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the United States and he can't show a shred of patriotism. This is one of those moments when I REALLY don't like the no-cussing rule on RedState. In the eyes of the military this guy makes Bill Clinton the Draft Dodger look like Audie effin' Murphy.
"I can say - not as a patriotic bromide...that the United States of America is the greatest, the noblest and...the only moral country in the history of the world. - Ayn Rand
I mean what else would you do ?
With Obama I don't view this as lack of patriotism but complete cluelessness. He has a look on his face which is just crying out "What In gods name am I supposed to do up here, whats the norm".
Its like he is trying to reach out, or reach in and coming up with nothing. Imagine if you will an insect thats had its tiny insect soul removed and now has just what little programming it came equipped with.
Rather Sad.

I've never seen someone put their hand to their heart during the national anthem before. And I've been to plenty of sporting events. Actually scratch that. Generally you'll see a few people do it, and then halfway through look around and stop. Maybe a couple persist, but these are the exception.
you must travel in different circles. I am not insulting anyone here, it is just surprising that people do not know this is a tradition. I would think parents might pass down some of this stuff but we know you can never assume anymore.
Let me tell you, watch a NASCAR event. But you know what? something funny is going on in this thread. Can these people be serious? You have never seen a baseball game on tv? You have never noticed the players with hands on their hearts during the Anthem? Wow, I am trying to understand here but I find this odd. Sure I know many people are not patriotic and many parents don't teach this stuff. Yet, to say you have NEVER seen it! Wow :)

Obama is creating a pattern, this picture, the publicized choice to remove his US flag pin. Seems like he wants to be a "citizen of the world".
Molon Labe!
I am lucky enough to be able to dress quite casually a lot of the time. I fly the flag every day at my house and I wear patriotic clothing regularly. But that is not the point at all, I don't care what people wear, patriotism is about more than that.
The problem with Obama is he is applying to be the leader of this nation. He not only does not wear a flag pin, he made a point in the media that he was taking his off. That is a big difference. Also, I get all I need to know about Obama by his words and deeds, he is a socialist. Most of the modern (lesser form) Democrat party only loves the idea of the America they will change, they criticize this country all the time and compare us negatively to others all the time. Go to their websites and see for yourself.
Molon Labe!
I wasn't trying to imply anything about your patriotism I was just wondering in general, aside from politicians, who wears flag lapel pins and other jewlery.
Not wearing the flag pin is not my problem with Obama, it's the reasoning he used for not wearing it. If he had said, "I just don't wear it.", that would be fine by me. Instead, he went on to disrespect those that do, and then imply the country stinks in the next sentence. Taken by themselves, not covering your heart or wearing a flag pin means very little. But taken together with his repeated comments, his pandering to the anti-American fringe left, establishes a pattern of behavior that perhaps indicates perhaps he really doesn't like this country very much, or at least he is an elitist that thinks that love of country is outdated and in bad taste.

§ 301. National anthem
How Current is This?
(a) Designation.— The composition consisting of the words and music known as the Star-Spangled Banner is the national anthem.
(b) Conduct During Playing.— During a rendition of the national anthem—
(1) when the flag is displayed—
(A) all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart;
(B) men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold the headdress at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart; and
(C) individuals in uniform should give the military salute at the first note of the anthem and maintain that position until the last note; and
(2) when the flag is not displayed, all present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed.
Presumably there was another flag for them to be facing.

Obama aside:
I didn't realize this was written into U.S. Code - is it something that actually cna be brought against someone in federal court (any cases of this)?
I imagine that there'd be penalties included if the idea was to actually prosecute people for this. Which, by the way, I don't think that we should. Annoyed glaring seems to be about the right level of social disapproval.

I do not like Obama on his views and such but I find this whole thing to be just stupid. So the man didnt place his hand over his heart..George bush has done this along with myself..this makes neither one of us less proud of our country..if this how we plan on bringing him down then we better hope clinton gets the ticket
First, what you mean "we", kimo-sabe?
Second, when the Democrats drop the "Republicans want to kill the old and eat the young" rhetoric everytime someone proposes a tax-cut, we'll stop pointing out visible signs of, shall I say, less than overtly patriotic behavior by their so-called luminaries. 'K?

the lapel pin controversy, and you begin to see a trend with Mr. Obama. He has a bit of a problem with patriotism, apparently.

I feel sorry for you. I REALLY do. You state your own laziness to show reverence for the National Anthem of this country. It's your lucky circumstance, or course, but others fight exhaustively for you to have that frivolous option.
Patriots appreciate the freedoms of this country so much that they don't need to DEBATE about wearing a flag pin or instinctively showing reverence to this country. In fact, they are proud to do it.
Obama, this supposed SMART GUY, is starting to create doubt because of his lack of muster to display simple love of this country. Everyone else on the podium EASILY knows to show their patriotism.
He wants to be OUR President? Yet he needs to equivocate about wearing a flag PIN? Makes me wonder about his audience that needs to hear that message?
I don't even want to ponder why you have lapses, Mwright 91, but Bush's reverence and patriotism is displayed constantly. Obama wants to replace him in that job -- as President, the defender of this country.
Maybe you'll be able to comprehend his offensiveness more as just bad PR or maybe on the pure lousy marketing level. Or maybe lack of pandering would cover it. Either way, you are right about Clinton. This is an easy one for her.

with Hillary being out of his sightline and all.
I am from his district and voted for the republican, but unfortunately, I live in a mostly deomocratic area. Anyway, I am getting so ticked off at this (sensoring myself) idiot, that I am fixing to start calling his office on a daily basis.
He's a United States Senator, so his "district" is none other than the entire state of Illinois. What do you mean? People don't generally describe states as "districts."
And will anyone laugh this time?

I get really annoyed with all this ragging on HRC's hips. I don't like the woman's politics, but there is nothing at all wrong with her body. Perhaps you like this matchstick women they use for models, but I like women with meat on their bones - and I suspect that HRC is a lot more healthy than these teenages who starve themselves, too.
Let's leave her body out of it - there is plenty to go after in her mind!

Three of the four were looking at something to their right, while Wild Bill was looking towards the camera. Maybe that's where the guy was holding the squeaky toy.
Doesn't Obama look like he's at the post office waiting to buy stamps?

I'm surprised no one has made the most obvious observation, which is that Obama is a freaking giant! Look at the picture--he's about twice as tall as Ruth Harkin, and he dwarfs everyone else.

Someone posted this last week. It is very interesting that B.O. seems to be going out of his way to look Anti-American. I've seen him spend much more time talking about the "false symbols of patriotism" that showing any real patriotism. The left acts as if it would be a crime to cheer anything that has traditionally been American.
