Yeah, look, I'm really sorry that they didn't listen to Yamamoto, too.
It was a shame that he had to end up fighting us.

It's just that - and not to be a nag about it, Justice Stevens - when we sent out a bunch of airplanes to intercept Admiral Yamamoto and shoot him out of the sky, up to the moment that we did that he was busy trying to figure out ways to kill as many American and Allied soldiers as he could possibly manage.
Oh, my aching head.
Volokh has the details, not to mention his usual intelligent analysis, including why liberals probably shouldn't consider this case as relevant to the death penalty. On the other hand, Ace has both an accurate summing up (two words, rhymes with "mucking inane") and the useful observation that it'd be lovely for our Party to have some say on this fellow's eventual replacement on the Supreme Court, what-what?
Well, the Britishism was me.

What does this guy do? I hope it is nothing important.
If we targeted Hitler ?
Or Tojo ?
Mengele ?
Anji Kaneko ?
Shiro Ishii ?

Ace sez: "Remember, Justice Stevens will retire next term."
Wait, did I miss an announcement? Or is this just very assertive speculation?
Him holding out until 2013 seems unlikely.
The Fuzzy Puppy of the VRWC. I've been usurped!
He is quite healthy for his age. People do live that long. Look at Robert Byrd.
At a speech he gave in Hawaii over the summer, he seemed to imply that he would only retire if Justice Souter advised him to do so.
Otherwise, I expect he will be there until he dies. He added that he loved his job even more now the court has stopped hearing so many cases.
Sadly, President Ford ignored Barry Goldwater's recommendation...
and chose Stevens instead...
Calling Stevens, "the finest legal mind I could find."
