(Brightly) Hi, there!
Yeah, it's going to be one of *those* posts.

Before you ask, this has been run by the Directors, with one addition.
Howdy, folks. Just finished off my week on sabbatical - baby stuff, house stuff, writing stuff, that sort of thing - but before I get back into the swing of things I'd thought that I'd review four items on a meta-level. Just to keep things moving smoothly here, and everything.
Read on. Trust me, read on.
OK, in no particular order:
0). The Directors have required that I note that anyone advocating or hinting at the violent overthrow of the United States government will be banned on sight. Which I would have done anyway, but this way I get to giggle like a schoolgirl while doing it.
(pause)
Sorry for the visualization, folks.
1). I have noticed a certain drift in comments away from civility. I'm not interested in who said what and to whom; but we can reverse this trend the nice way, or the not-nice way. This is the nice way.
For our newbies: yah, I can enforce this. With not a little cruel good-humor, to be blunt about it.
2). Burning-into-retina time: if you peruse Mr. Posting Rules you'll find that the purpose of this site is to promote conservative AND Republican ideals. Look upon that 'and'. Meditate upon it. Let its wisdom brand itself upon your very soul.
Let me be explicit, here: this is not the Let's Start a Third Party! blog. This is also not the Shaddap About Your Problems With The GOP blog, either, for those about to take umbrage. But if you aren't interested in fixing the GOP's problems from within, you are pretty much at best the classical definition of, well, a RiNO. Put another way: the place for ideological fights is in the primaries, which is why we have them. Participating in those primaries implies that you will support the result, even if you don't like it. If you can't accept that, don't participate in the primary.
Savvy? Good. Glad we had that cleared up.
3). This North American Union business? We're a political blog, not a conspiracy theory website. If you want us to change that atitude, start accumulating some of the documentary evidence that cannot help but appear when dealing with a hypothetical international plot to amalgamate an entire continent.
---
I think that covers it.

The fact that it was expressed in such a way, in response to such a post, and with no cred whatsoever here (to date) shows what a poorly contrived attempt at humor it was.
There's a big difference between, say, you (or Erick below) saying something like that -- it helps, as you know, to be a known quantity before pushing the limits :-)
I chuckled.

LOL.
Hopefully you will write more for the site.

I'm waiting for another exciting NASCAR blog post. Nice to have you back!
It seems the level of blamming has declined in your absence. And the need for it seems to be greater. This is not a snark to the other directors. I just think since you were usurped, you have taken more delight in it!

I never get a day off and I'm The Prince. All day long it's pick up the dog, pet the dog, love the fuzzy guy (no easy task), love the pretty lady who hangs out with the fuzzy guy (who knows why, she could do better), make sure there aren't any ax murderers in the neighborhood, and on and on. And, I have to deal with all legal issues about my run for POTUS. It's a pain. I hardly have time for a nap and treat.
Anyway, I expect you to put as much effort into the important things as I do. No more of those vacation thingys, whatever they are. If you've got "other" stuff to do stay up late. Heck, you've got one of those little short people who cry all the time and are messy, he probably keeps you up anyway. Make good use of the time.
Woof...

the purpose of this site is to promote conservative AND Republican ideals.
I have at least a rough idea what conservative ideals are. Can anyone say what Republican ideals are? They used to be largely the same thing as conservative ideals, but that has been shifting over time.
The published platform hashed out by offical party channels is a good place to start.
Run like Reagan!
Reread It Can't Happen Here for the historical perspective*; the anti-fascist revolution in that one is led by the Republican (and thus, more progressive) candidate for President. And that was a mere 70 years ago. 70 years from now? Who knows?
But since you asked: there are conservatives - some of whom who comment here - who would question the essential goodness of free trade, an interventionist foreign policy (particularly when it involves humanitarian considerations) and the need for the EPA.
And we won't even bring up the new Third Rail. Just because I'm sure that everybody needs a break from it by now.

*I certainly don't recommend that you read it for the accurate fortunetelling! :)
It Can't Happen Here is definitely worth reading, or at least skimming, heh, if you get it free from Project Gutenberg. If only to see FDR denied a third term, heh.
Then again I'm a sucker for alternate histories.
Run like Reagan!
elsewhere? :>)
Seriously, the civility gauge could do with an increase.

Sweet! That means no more pushing of 3/4 of the front runners for the nomination.

but seriously, when you say this:
Participating in those primaries implies that you will support the result, even if you don't like it. If you can't accept that, don't participate in the primary.
I can't unconditionally agree. The other way to look at it is that in some cases you participate in the primary to try and keep the party from making a terrible mistake. I absolutely can't agree with the statement that says 'no matter what, if he got through the primary and has an R next to his name he gets my vote'.
Remember, David Duke ran as a Republican.
Note - this is absolutely NOT comparing David Duke to any of these guys, but there are a few of the guys presumptively running for the Republican nomination that I couldn't vote for under any circumstances in a general election. Paul. Hagel. McCain. Now, I don't _think_ any of these are going to get the nomination unless a natural disaster hits and takes out all the other candidates. But in one case it wouldn't be totally out of the question. Are you really saying that people like me shouldn't vote in the primaries? I disagree, because I believe that all of the guys that I couldn't vote for in any circumstances would be absolute disasters, and would hurt the country.
...for the moment: yes, I am explicitly saying that if you absolutely cannot accept the results of a primary then you shouldn't vote in it. You either trust that the process will avoid disaster, or you don't. If you don't... then don't participate. It's a free country.

...said skipping does not mean that I accept that David Duke was a, really a Republican (the aforementioned vagaries of the LA electoral system) or b, would have won the GOP primary in any other State. :)

At this point, a major reason to participate in the primary process is to try to avoid disaster. If that disaster comes to pass in spite of your actions in the primary, no need to keep it rolling along in the general.
I didn't vote in the last Illinois gubernatorial elections, due to my pending (temporary) move to Indiana, but if I had I would've voted for Gidwitz or Oberweis, trying at all costs to knock Baar Topinka's name off the ballot. Having failed to do so, there would be no reason to compound the problem by voting for her in the general.
