Shema Yisrael Adonai Eloheinu, Adonai Echad
Professor Liviu Librescu

* Then out spake brave Horatius,
* The Captain of the gate:
* "To every man upon this earth
* Death cometh soon or late.
* And how can man die better
* Than facing fearful odds,
* For the ashes of his fathers,
* And the temples of his Gods..."
[Sloppy of me: this is, of course, Canto XXVII of Thomas Macaulay's Horatius.]

PS: As for his murderer... I know his name, but I will not write it.

and his students.

Worthy to have his name called among the Let's Roll brotherhood of Flight 93. The measure of this man is perhaps even greater, because he had moments, not minutes, to decide on his course of action.

With you, Moe, I choose to remember the Professor.

It's war -- so when can we start shooting back at the enemy Democrats?

I got chills reading that story. this man is a true hero. the President ought to honor him with some sort of posthumous civilian medal/award if possible. let us remember the name of Professor Liviu Librescu.

Hokie undergrad, and grad school. 1978-1985.

Professor Librescu is someone I will now admire for the rest of my life. I like to say that in a moment of terror like that I would do the same thing, but in my heart, I don't know if I would have the courage. My thoughts and prayers for his family and the rest of the VT Community. May they rest in peace.

in need of a new name...

Has an outstanding Corp of Cadets. I chose to leave after an accident that affected my sight. This is an exceptional university, other posters on other blogs have assumed that VaTech is a liberal bastion. Not buying it. It is too large to define. There are libs, cons, etc. It is a major universirty. I am guessing engineering is non political.

I had felt oddly detached emotionally from the shooting until I heard today about this man, and I damn near cried (not common for me). I guess it's the combination of tragedy and heroism that gets to me. I only wish there were something I could do to give this man back his life. I'm at least glad that his heroism is receiving media attention and is being honored. If any of his loved ones happen to read this, please know that all who learn of his heroics and his story will be inspired, and he will always have a place of honor in our nation's history and hearts.

I lately lived ... and fought - not without glory. But now these walls ... shall have my arms and lyre discharged from battle. Here, here, lay down the shining torch, and door-bolt, and the longbow that once threatened the resisting doors.
