Posted at 10:37am on Jun. 17, 2008 RedState Radio: Senator Jim DeMint and the Senate Conservatives Fund

By Erick

This week I turned over the RedState podcast microphone to my good friend Andy Roth at the Club for Growth.

Andy interviewed Senator Jim DeMint about the Senator's new Senate Conservatives Fund. The SCF if dedicated to electing real conservatives to the United States Senate.

Both Andy and Senator DeMint are good friends of RedState and Senator DeMint has waged a good, hard fight for conservatives in the United States Senate. We should all support this effort.

Senator DeMint tells Andy what it's all about in the podcast.

Posted at 10:00am on Sep. 19, 2007 Power to the People

By Erick

ImageIn conservative talk radio, there are three big names, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Laura Ingraham. We've done a podcast with Rush and today it's my pleasure to present a podcast with Laura Ingraham.

Laura has a new book out, Power to the People.

In the book, Laura articulately makes the case that we have the power to change the country and, in the process, takes on a lot of liberal conventional wisdom.

Frankly, I'd encourage you to read the book if only because of Chapter 9. Titled "Blinding Us With Science," Laura gives perhaps the best, most understandable breakdown of liberal lies about the conservative position on stem cell research. It's stuff I knew, but have never read such easily understandable explanations.

I talked to Laura Ingraham yesterday. She's out on the road promoting her book.

You can hear the whole interview here.

Posted at 10:20am on Sep. 18, 2007 Roy Blunt and Tom Price talk to RedState

By Erick

ImageYesterday, I met by phone with Congressman Tom Price (R-GA) and Congressman Roy Blunt (R-MO). We talked about Gen. Petraeus's report and how it has united the GOP and divided the Democrats.

As Congressman Blunt noted, the Democrats pre-emptively ran away from Gen. Petraeus and it hurt them. Now the Dems are slowly walking back to Petraeus in an attempt to score points against the White House -- trying to have it both ways.

We also talked about Republican unity and taking back the House. As both congressmen noted, the GOP in the House will most likely soon be fully back where the base wants it — on the side of taxpayers against big government spending. Congressman Blunt expects a show of real unity voting against the Democrats' spending plans.

What can we do to help? Congressman Price has a great idea. Most of us do not live in swing districts. But there are about 61 districts out there where the Democrats control the seat while President Bush won them in 2004. We should all look at adopting a candidate for Congress if we live in a district that is definitely safe for either side.

You can hear the whole interview here.

A programming note: tomorrow I'll have an interview with Laura Ingraham.

Posted at 8:57am on Jul. 13, 2007 RS Radio: A Conversation With Congressman Ron Paul

By Erick

ImageI've given Congressman Paul a lot of flack for his reprehensible views on 9/11 and Iraq. Nonetheless, a lot of people seem to like the Congressman and want to hear from him.

So, with that in mind, I set out to do a podcast with the Congressman on the campaign trail. A raucous crowd met him in South Carolina and he toured Silicon Valley at the end of the week.

I asked about his opposition to the war, what he thinks of all his online support despite flat lining in the polls, and what his plan would be, were he the nominee, to stop Hillary Clinton.

Posted at 7:00am on Jul. 11, 2007 RedState Radio: Part 3 of our conversation with Fred Thompson

By Erick

ImageCan any President in the present political climate govern as a fiscal conservative? Seriously? The Republicans have been talking a good game, but under the present administration they have failed to deliver on their "small government" pledge. Instead, they've been Democrat-lite.

Today on RedState Radio, we pose the question to Senator Fred Thompson. He gives us his take on being a fiscal conservative. Arguably, given his socially conservative voting record and his "leave me alone" brand of practical conservatism, Fred Thompson might just be the one Republican candidate who can reunite social conservatives and libertarians within the Grand Old Party.

In addition to discussing whether a President can really be a fiscal conservative, Senator Thompson also tells us what he'd do first as President. Your mileage may vary, but it sounds to me like he takes a swipe at the current administration and, in particular, the Attorney General's inept management.

Lastly, Senator Thompson addresses the rumor that he once killed a man and whether a certain famous person in Los Angeles is really afraid of him. All this today on a great episode of RedState Radio.

Here's a hard link to the podcast.

Posted at 7:00am on Jul. 9, 2007 RS Radio: Part One of our Fred!cast

By Erick

ImageIs he or isn't he? Isn't it time to stop flirting and get on with it? What does he think of how the President handled the Scooter LIbby matter?

These are questions Fred Thompson sat down and answered for me on Saturday afternoon. My wife and I attended a fundraiser for Senator Thompson on Friday night where he said he was having so much fun getting into the first or second spot in most national polls by not being a candidate, why rush it. After a late flight in, we rescheduled our conversation for the phone.

On Saturday, while touring Florida meeting with voters across the state, Senator Thompson and I chatted for about thirty minutes on the phone. We discussed Iraq, the Los Angeles Times hit piece against him, Scooter Libby, what his first act as President would be, and several other topics. Senator Thompson also gave his thoughts on this question: can a President actually govern as a fiscal conservative in this day and age?

Today, part one of RedState's interview with Senator Thompson. We asked him about declaring his candidacy and about Scooter Libby.

Here's a hard link to the podcast.

Posted at 9:19am on Jun. 15, 2007 RS Radio: The Earmarks Battle

By Erick

ImageThe earmarks battle appeared to end 24 hours ago. Then, as I was interviewing Rep. Tom Price (R-GA) and Rep. John Campbell (R-CA), members of the Republican Study Committee, about the battle, they received messages on their Blackberries that the fight was back on.

The Democrats backed out of the deal.

Only after the meeting did the Democrats cave, again, on earmarks reform.

Reps. Campbell and Price have some great insight into the fight on the House floor including how it happened, what they did, and some favorite moments on the floor.
