RS Radio: Jim Nussle on Rudy

Congressman Jim Nussle of Iowa, after his unsuccessful bid for Iowa's governorship, surprised many of his conservative cohorts by signing up with Team Rudy.
Congressman Nussle, a pro-life fiscal conservative and one of the architects of the 1994 Republican Revolution, is adamant that Rudy Giuliani is the conservative in the race.
When I asked Congressman Nussle about Rudy's social stances, he said he felt strongly that those issues would not be as serious in the next few years as national security issues. He also said that of all the candidates running in either party, Rudy is the one guy who has truly been tested.
Leadership, he said, was not just the art of leading with the expected, but with the unexpected -- and that description certainly fits the 8 years in office Rudy Giuliani had in New York City.

This column leads me to believe that there may be more wrong with Giuliani than his position on social issues. The columnist complains that there is no one representing the "freedom wing" of the GOP.

I will admit, though, that the columnist did kind of start to sound like a Ron Paul for President supporter. LOL. Still interesting though.

. . . then I guess we’re done with the endless array of “Romney flip-flopped on abortion” stories on the front page.”
Probably not.
Some highlights from the interview:
At 3:57 with regards to “gay marriage” Congressman Nussel says that Giuliani is for the “principles of marriage” (I won’t touch that one) and doesn’t want to “change the definition” but that we shouldn’t “discriminate against people who have made a different choice.” Any guess on what that means?
At about 4:10 on gun control he defends Giuliani by saying as Mayor of the “murder capital of the world” he has a different perspective on guns than people in “deer hunting and pheasant hunting country.” What was the rule about people who when talking about the Second Amendment who fall back on hunting?
At about 5:03, Nussel tries to reassure Erick that Giuliani will appoint judges who believe that it is the business of the legislature and not the courts to “make the laws.” Pity that Erick didn’t follow up by asking him how that squares with Giuliani’s filing a lawsuit against the gun manufacturers in order to enact “regulation through litigation.”
At about 5:20, Erick asks about whether Giuliani would try to reign in spending. No mention of Giuliani filing suit along with Robert Byrd to get the courts to strike down the Line Item Veto.
It seems to me that Congressman Nussel – or rather those who buy his “clarification” may eventually need to find themselves a good divorce attorney.
I'm not a South Park Republican, I'm a King of the Hill libertarian.
