How Much Are New York Times Columnists Paid?!?!

Here's why.

You know, I could respect Tom Friedman a whole lot more if he weren't such an unbelievable cliché-addict. The "9/12 candidate" shibboleth is just one example of how Friedman substitutes not-so-clever phrasemaking for serious thought. Others include "9/11 has made us stupid."--you know, considering the calamity that was visited on the country that day, I am surprised just how balanced the United States is, Friedman's snark to the contrary notwithstanding. Then there is "Give me your tired, your poor and your fingerprints." Who comes up with this nonsense? Honestly?

Other examples of ridiculousness include the suggested Presidential campaign platform to build free hospitals for Cubans and to get Tom Friedman uninterrupted cellphone service. I dare any serious Presidential candidate to make these two planks central ones in their platform. They will be laughed off the stage by the very smart people Tom Friedman so mistakenly considers "stupid."

the former Enron advisor, Krugman, were safely locked up in the 'times select' asylum. Now they're wandering the streets again - howling at the moon.

"Enlightened statesmen will not always be at the helm." -- James Madison

This country's media, print and TV, have been mezmerized by their own comic creativity, when they insert their comic commentary into their columns and sound bytes. They all strive for that catchy phrase to be captured and quoted by everyone else; it's pathetic. What's worse then this is the slimy headline writers who go unnoticed in this little game they play. Those individuals, none of whom ever get identified, can insert bias in a column or news story, just by their headline or teaser. My guess is most people rarely read an entire column. Instead, they breeze thru the headlines, whether it be the NY Times, WSJ, CNN, Fox, whaterver. That gives the headline writers and teaser creators come heavy duty clout, since it's their tag that most people remember and formulate opinions. So much for an informed public.
