Friend of RedState, Congressman Jack Kingston (R-GA), may have been one of the very, very few House Republicans in leadership to vote against raising the minimum wage, but according to the Daily Show, Congressman Kingston does support tax increases -- at least if you are a pimp (he cuts them for everyone else).

America understands the Pimp Economy very well. I can't really call this one funny, though. I'm in the middle of an off-RS, offlist conversation with a friend of mine and we were talking briefly yesterday about a company in Maryland that supplies a comprehensive assortment of metric tools. About a year ago I talked to the guy who owns the place, and even though his business was booming, he was about ready to pack it in because he couldn't find qualified people to work for him. As soon as he put the words: "Working knowledge of the metric system required" into his job ads., the calls stopped coming in.
His compensation was very generous. But we're livin' in a pimp n' ho culture, and Stewart's little attempt to deflate that isn't going to change it. I said to the guy that basically the reason he can't get applicants is because anyone under 30 who knows the metric system in America is really more concerned with making a fast buck, being a drug dealer, or looking and acting like a drug dealer, or a pimp. Jon Stewart is such a coward. The only way he can stand up for anything that wouldn't ordinarily earn a lot of laughs is by making it into a farce. What a loser.
Stewart's audience might laugh at that piece, but only because it's true. And let's not forget who gave us all that in the first place.
I am a hawkish warmonger with a crusty demeanour and a heart of steel. But I have a softer side.
They'll pander to anyone to sell product, also. Anyone seen the ads featuring Lee Iacocca and Snoop Dogg, or the Old Navy ads? Corporate America has bought into it also, because it's the only way to make money, and as far as that's concerned, most companies don't care who the messenger is as long as they're effective. But the cultural reasons for it are easy to trace.

I can't be the only one who laughed out loud at this comment, can I?
Or are there more metric playa haters out there than I thought?
Cuz it made me chuckle too. Or he may just have made the sar-chasm too wide for us to notice. Few RS'ers have one of those "Kids Today..." moments like that, heh.
Don't give me any of your BS, Charles J, because I've personally taken jobs for much less than that business was offering, white Republican boy and all that I am. In fact I worked about 5 miles down the road from the place in question, for UPS at $8 an hour, loading trucks at 3:00 in the morning. So come off it, and I mean now.

kowalski,
I'm not sure what you're talking about. OK, you took a job paying less than what the business was offering, and furthermore the business had trouble filling the position. However, when you say:
I said to the guy that basically the reason he can't get applicants is because anyone under 30 who knows the metric system in America is really more concerned with making a fast buck, being a drug dealer, or looking and acting like a drug dealer, or a pimp.
I took issue. First of all, its a terribly far reach and mischaracterization of anyone else under 30 who learned and still uses the metric system. I have to use that conversion in my everyday job as an engineer. I'm not a drug dealer and I'm afraid I don't know any.
I apologize if I've offended or angered you. But it just sounds very strange to me to hear someone say something like that. And that's no BS.
But in a suburb outside of Washington, D.C. there were very few people who wanted to take that job in stock or at the counter after the description was posted, even at a *very* generous salary. I talked personally with the owner of the business in question and I can affirm that even at a very generous hourly wage he couldn't get people to apply who were worth keeping.

I love him even more.
