Colombia about to be at war with Venezuela and Ecuador?
"'The Colombian government has become the Israel of Latin America,' Mr. Chavez said." My, yes, what a shame the coup failed.

Before I go any farther, just why is it that every tinpot two-bit dictator beloved of the American Hard Left eventually ends up screaming about the Jews?
Yeah, that's what you'd call a rhetorical question.
Anyway, things are getting bad down there:
South America on brink of war
By Martin ArosteguiSANTA CRUZ, Bolivia — South America was on the brink of war yesterday as Venezuela and Ecuador amassed troops on the Colombian border in response to the killing of a Marxist rebel leader.
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez threatened to join the rebels in a war to overthrow hard-line Colombian President Alvaro Uribe, a key ally of the United States, deploying tanks, fighter jets and thousands of troops along the Colombian border.
Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa also ordered troops to the border, expelled Colombia's ambassador and recalled its ambassador to Bogota, but left its embassy open. Venezuela closed its embassy in Colombia and ordered all diplomats home.
Fausta has more links, for the interested (H/T Glenn). For my own part, I'm generally taking Colombia's side on this one, given that they're a, blowing up Communist rebels, which is in itself a meritorious act, particularly when said rebels are also narcotics smugglers; b, an ally of the USA that is actively trying to claw its way out of the current mess that it's in; and c, not screaming about how their enemies are just like Israel - which, believe it or not, was actually meant as an insult.
As I said: rhetorical question.

Like Hezbollah, these FARC heroes would make a raid and then cross the border to thumb their noses at the pursuing Colombian military. The only way that Colombia is the "Israel of Latin America" is Uribe's complete military superiority over the Venz forces, gutted by Chavez of its best officers in his fear of being overthrown in a military coup.
One of the basic rules of homeland defense is never let a foreign power to put a military force on your soil. If the Mexican army pursued Chiapas rebels into TX, there would be a howl of protest from coast to coast. On the news, the Colombian general said he had documentary evidence to support their incursion, but did not produce it so that authenticity could be verified. If the Ecuadoreans and Venezuelans let Colombia get away with it, the Colombians will be back again and again. Forces will keep getting larger and larger. Stays will get longer and longer until it becomes an occupation. Perhaps that is the plan.

back on 'full strength' again real soon, he could come out and mention how we are parking a carrier battle group off the Vz. coast and backing Colombia in its right to defend itself from terrorists seeking safe haven in the shelter of corrupt regimes.
And mentioning something to the effect that if Colombia is attacked by any other nation, we stand ready to assist our ally in any way they need would be icing on the cake.
Chavez and his Ecuadorian sock puppet would implode in seconds.
