Meet the Press (NBC): Tim Russert talks to Pat Leahy. There's really no way to spice that one up, to make it seem to hold the promise of even casual interest.

FOX News Sunday (FOX): Host Chris Wallace talks border security with Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff.

Face the Nation (CBS): Host Bob Schieffer interviews the renegade, the new maverick: Dick Lugar.

This Week (ABC): Host George Stephanopoulos talks to Chertoff and Joltin' Joe Lieberman.

Late Edition (CNN): Host Wolf Blitzer interviews Chertoff about the London bomb, etc., then he talks with Jim Clyburn and Peter King about the immigration bill which is finally dead but evidently must be further discussed. And he'll have his usual cast of thousands.
-----

It is July. I wonder which of these guests the various hosts find to be the most compelling interview subject: Chertoff, Leahy, Lugar, or Lieberman.

Get plenty of sleep, have a few pots of coffee on hand, and things will be fine. Representative King has been a tad fiery of late, so we'll see what happens on the tail end.

I had that bet covered. Sheesh. Stick to politics.

neither Chuck Shumer, Rahm Emanuel, nor any of the usual suspects from the far left are on.

...I hope Chertoff clears up some of the misinformation about how Z-Visas would've worked. If you can invalidate the Z-Visa at any time, the significance of getting a piece of plastic in just 24-hours is not that much. The crucial part of the Z-Visa is its validity in the database in Washington, and that individual record could be invalidated at any time, when new information to light that makes you ineligible. And, once your Z-Visa is invalidated, then that piece of plastic you have in your wallet, just like a stolen credit card, is absolutely worthless--worthless for getting a job and worthless for traveling outside the country. It becomes a flag for your detainment--not your privileges. That's how it was designed to work. Not all these technical details are addressed in Senate bills, but that doesn't make them any less insignificant to the debate. There was a lot of misinformed debate out there. Chertoff is a little late now.

I forget sometimes that spelling is not my only problem.

the idea that the Administration and the Congress (at least the supporters of CIR) gave a tinkers dam about enforcement or security. This was nothing more than a Trojan Horse to free 20MM illegals from the "shadows", where they rightfully belong. Actually, they rightfully belong in their "country of origin".

...to their "country of origin" if they're unwilling to come "out of the shadows?"

You do it by inventing a new verification system that employers can't avoid like they do now under the current law. Right now they accept forged documents and then you can't convict them. "Gee, I thought it was a real one...it looked real to me...." That's the current system (that we'll have unchanged now for at least two more years.)

and employer verification.

I'm a mortgage banker. I have verify the ID's of all of my clients. We use a third party firm, it takes 24 hours, costs $25 and I can tell you with near 100% accuracy if the SSN is stolen or fake.

My issue was never with increased employer scrutiny. It's with giving illegals a free pass. And yes, I consider a $5,000 "fine" to be a free pass.

Am I to understand that you do not believe it to "hold the promise of even casual interest" when the Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee will be asked about the constitutionality of the actions of an Executive Branch that refuses "take care that the laws be faithfully executed"?

To write this:
To: The Honorable Richard Lugar,
Senator

Dear Sir,
Your recent change in stand regarding the war on terror is puzzling. You have declared the 'Surge' a failure and have flip flopped to now join those who want to declare America defeated. This new stand of yours raises serious questions about how informed you and your fellow Senators are, as well as how seriously engaged you are in a war you voted for.
As you should know, the strategy known as the 'surge' has only been underway for a very short period of time. The strategy is only just now making its first full effects known.
Here is a report on one of the battles, which Coalition Forces won despite your declarations of defeat:
We did not lose this battle

and do please look at the pictures.
But here is a report on what we can do and what you apparently are determined we must do: lose
http://www.michaeltotten.com/archives/001478.html
Just help America quit
I have respected you for many years, and admired your forward thinking and and patriotic motives and efforts. As I observe the Senate today, however, I see an increasingly self-absorbed out of touch and ineffective group dynamic. If you in the Senate would put a fraction of the effort you make into declaring this war lost, or the need for America to surrender and leave, into actually trying to win, not only would you be once again admirable, not only would you stop encouraging the enemy, not only would you improve morale in the field, you would very likely help win this war you voted for.
I am tired of you and your fellow Senators treating this war as just another public works project that has fallen out of favor and needs to be shut down.
The only point of this war or any other this nation fights is to win it.
Judging by your recent words and actions, you have forgotten this important fact.
That is bad for your place in history and even worse for this country.
Respectfully,
hunter
