Norm Coleman Is Good Enough, Smart Enough . . .

And doggone it, people like him!
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey shows that Minnesota Senator Norm Coleman has opened a seven-percentage point lead over Democratic challenger Al Franken in his bid for re-election. Coleman, widely considered one of the most vulnerable incumbents of Election 2008, attracts 50% of the vote for the first time this year while Franken earns support from 43%.
A month ago, the incumbent Senator led the comedian 48% to 46%. Two months ago, Franken had a three-point lead over Coleman. That was before another Democratic candidate, Mike Ciresi, withdrew from the race.
Coleman now leads Franken by nineteen points among men but trails by four among women. Coleman earns 91% support from Republican voters while Franken gets the vote from 75% of Democrats. Coleman has expanded his lead among unaffiliated voters to double digits.
Coleman is viewed favorably by 55%, up three points from a month ago. Franken earns positive ratings from 48%, unchanged since March.
As Rasmussen goes on to point out, when an incumbent polls over 50%, that spells trouble for the challenger. On the upside for Franken: If this Senate race does not go well, he can always go ask Lorne Michaels if he is needed around the set.

Wow, Pejman:...It's hard to respond to this one.(I read your
posts constantly and respect your knowledge and intelligence)
however, this one is so difficult. Coleman vs, Frankin. I grew up on a farm in Minnesota. Was taught to be an Independent. Have lived in SD, CO, TX, and now North Carolina.
So, I will put forth the standard line "I am a staunch republican". Go figure.
Here is the problem with your post (in all due respect, I am
sure you already realize.) Coleman is and has not been a
conservative. He may be a republican, however, he does not
represent my views on many, many issues. Al Frankin is an
idiot. The Minnesota people are not. Coleman already gives
what they want.
I don't think think this is a big victory. It is one idiot
vs. another. He just gives the republicans a vote. Not a victory.
I am not saying that William F. Buckley, Jr. is winning in Minnesota. I am saying that Norm Coleman is. And that Al Franken is losing, which is even better.

How thick does our tongue will become to accept a Republican, I am not arguing with you, just choking..
I stand by my earlier prediction - in an election cycle where seemingly nothing has gone wrong for the Democrats (and everything has gone wrong for the Republicans) in the Congressional races, the Democrats - rather stupidly - backed the one candidate in MN who is very unlikely to win the Senate seat. Franken is a joke, and everyone knows it.
I will take this minor victory.
We cannot underestimate the candidacy of Al Franken. This is a single poll taken during a time at which he has gotten a ton of negative press. He started out down 20 and closed that to even in several polls. If I were betting now, I'd put my money on Franken. To be sure, I'm not saying that this race is a done deal and that Coleman can't win, only that this is the first time in the campaign that Coleman has gotten any sort of momentum. We can beat Franken if we take him seriously. If we don't, we will lose this one.

For us, bad news for the pop politicos! I thought I would soil myself laughing - I saw today a guy in Nashville, TN license plates, with a Franken sticker.
