CREW Blasts Pelosi Endorsement Of Murtha

Why Worry About Corruption Now?

By California Yankee Posted in Comments (17) / Email this page » / Leave a comment »

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) questions Speaker-in-waiting Nancy Pelosi’s commitment to eradicating corruption. She seems to have forgotten about the culture of corruption when she endorsed Representative John Murtha (D-PA) to be Majority Leader:

“Future House Speaker Pelosi’s endorsement of Rep. Murtha, one of the most unethical members of Congress, shows that she may have prioritized ethics reform merely to win votes with no real commitment to changing the culture of corruption,” Melanie Sloan, executive director of CREW said today. “How can Americans believe that the Democrats will return integrity to the House when future Speaker Pelosi has endorsed an ethically-challenged member for a leadership position? Rep. Murtha is the wrong choice for this job.”

Not only is Rep. Murtha beset by ethics issues, The New York Times reported on October 2, 2006 that he has consistently opposed ethics and earmark reform. Sloan continued, “Rep. Murtha’s opposition to ethics reform does not bode well for future Speaker Pelosi’s promise to enact ethics legislation in the first 100 hours of the new Congress.”

Isn't it fun to be in charge.

The entire Democratic leadership is riddled with people who have ethics and corruption issues.

word is he wants to create a K-Street project for the dems, and he has his hands tainted as well... double negatives abound

I will not stand for any form of amnesty, either side of the fence or aisle. I hate nothing more than corruption.

CREW has spent their whole existence yelling that Republicans are corrupt and the Democrats are pure as the wind-driven snow. They did this knowing that both sides have their issues. They helped getting Democrats elected on it. Now Democrats are not going to clean house. Goose meet Gander.... in his freezer.

Duh CREW, maybe next time you won't have to try and hide only the corrupt members of the other party.

Just as every cop is a criminal, and all the sinners saints - Sympathy for the Democrats

showing "fairness" by going after Dems they think are too centrist. As we get into late 2007 they can switch back to GOP Culture of Corruption mode for the 2008 elections and once again ignore any Dem missteps.

Bipartisanship = give + take. Republicans give. Democrats take.

CREW supports the even more liberal Hoyer?

of the worst of our guys are gone-either resigned or defeated.

I have said several times that Pelosi has said she is going to clean up the ethics, but I won't be holding my breath waiting on her to do it.

The dems are ready to start feeding at the trough, and ethics aren't going to stop them.

At least at the top levels of the dems seemed to be having a who moved my cheese moment.

Let's have an all corrupt Dim lineup.

...as holding a whip

er...being the Whip, yeah BEING a Whip! That's what I meant!

and no I have been a bad boy and NO! it's not sexual

If she was brainless before the election being Speaker of the House won't make her smarter.

The various, multifacted, & innumerable ethics investigations soon to be launched on a permenant and never ending basis by the gangsters known as the Democratic Party will at least serve the purpose of distracting the dolts who supported them.

While Ft Knox is emptied out at midnight frontier justice will find it's way with the Culture of Corruption, a purely Republican blemish.

Ethics, like Kleenex, are disposable.

Pelosi ‘will ensure’ Murtha win, Murtha ally says

By Josephine Hearn

House Speaker-to-be Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) will ensure that Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) wins his race for majority leader, a key Murtha ally said Monday night.

She will ensure that they [the Murtha camp] win. This is hard-ball politics,” said Rep. Jim Moran (D-Va.), a longtime Murtha supporter. “We are entering an era where when the Speaker instructs you what to do, you do it.”

Pelosi recently endorsed Murtha’s bid for majority leader against House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), but it was unclear whether she would use her clout as the first Democratic Speaker in 12 years to help Murtha win or whether her letter simply expressed a personal preference as a favor to Murtha.

Pelosi’s move was deliberate, Moran said, and she was already leaning on her colleagues to affect the outcome.

“Yes, she’s making calls to people. She is contacting people and letting them know that it’s an unequivocal letter,” Moran said.

That help me get up in the morning.

It's so nice of the Democrats not even waiting until they take office to start shooting themselves in the foot.

It didn't take very long for the democrats to turn on each other. At least they haven't reached the extreme of calling each other republicans yet!

The race to be the No. 2 House Democratic leader turned nasty Tuesday, with challenger Rep. John Murtha accusing opponents of "swift-boat style attacks" that hark back to his days being investigated in the FBI's 1980 Abscam sting.

Murtha won endorsement Monday from Nancy Pelosi, who is widely expected to be the House speaker. But Murtha is opposed by some liberals who say they are not happy with the Pennsylvania lawmaker's pro-gun and anti-abortion record. Others say Pelosi took a wrong turn in backing Murtha over her current deputy Rep. Steny Hoyer because Murtha's record is marred by ethics questions of the type Pelosi pledged to clean up in Congress.

"I am disconcerted that some are making headlines by resorting to unfounded allegations that occurred 26 years ago. I thought we were above this type of swift-boating attack. This is not how we restore integrity and civility to the United States Congress," Murtha said

Classic as always.

Nancy, at this rate, hell, you may not even make it into the Speaker's chair.

I bet the Steny Hoyer people are already thinking about challenging you and I'm sure the Blue Dogs aren't too happy.

You've already lost credibility on ethics by putting your credibility on the line in favor of one of your old Democratic ethically challenged allies. I mean, I'm sure some people are going to be really turned off that we went from Abramoff to freaking Abscam (that was so 1980s).

Nancy, what you should do is pull your support and encourage Mr. Murtha to withdraw from the race if not resign from Congress or I can promise you that you, Murtha, and Abscam are going to be issues in tight House races...

What's that, John Barrow, you're still supporting Nancy Pelosi for Speaker? Do ethics and honesty matter? I guess not...
