In case you were wondering what, if anything, Pelosi's plan actually *meant*...
(while thanking a generous God that it won't pass, of course)

...and you may be forgiven for thinking that it was and is primarily a method by which the Democrats can be portrayed as doing something, because that's the smart way to bet - at any rate, NZ Bear over at Victory Caucus has walked through the process, complete with pictures and everything (H/T: Instapundit). I must say, it does seem a bit... light for a plan that required the Democrats to utterly beclown every too-trusting partisan that sincerely believed that their guys would clean up Washington once in office, but (to quote the late, great Robert Anton Wilson) I guess that they meant well, or at least they meant something.
I mean. Spinach subsidies? I'd say what I'd think about what that says about the Democratic Party and their supporters, but every extended metaphor that I can think of is stickily obscene.

Matter of fact, losing the election would be preferable to this abomination of a plan.

if they force it on us, might as well use it against them.

It won't pass, so it'll get tossed back; Pelosi will then strip out the gunk keeping the GOP from voting for it - probably keep the pork, though - and then it'll go through again with no worries*. It's not quite time for the antiwar movement to go nuts on national television yet.

*I mean, the calibration on this was seriously impressive. A single vote majority, with double-digit Democratic defections? They must have been sitting up half the night on this one, trying to figure out which Democrats were in the most at-risk districts.

I have a low enough opinion of the Dem leadership. But it seems much work for something fundamentally inconsequential. If the war turns well they lose bigger, if it goes vietnam on us the republicans will be in the doghouse for decades.

For some reason I always make those calculations with the idea of an honest media.

They should have included pork subsidies to iraqi citizens. that i would be ok with.

in the next elections, after we have been slowly stepping down our troops from an improved Iraqi situation. Republicans can use that vote against their opponents.
