ImageThere are reasons that random Americans aren't usually allowed to carry out our foreign policy. Reasons like Jesse Jackson and Jimmy Carter.

Now Nancy Pelosi has joined the elite Gang that Can't Talk Straight by screwing up a simple message delivery from Israel to Assad and beclowning herself in the process.

Read on.

According to reporting by ABC News:

Pelosi, the most senior U.S. official to visit Syria in more than two years, said Assad told her he was also ready for negotiations with Israel. Syria wants the return of the Golan Heights, captured by Israel in the 1967 Middle East war.

"(Our) meeting with the president enabled us to communicate a message from Prime Minister (Ehud) Olmert that Israel was ready to engage in peace talks as well," Pelosi told reporters in Damascus after talks with Assad.

If this had been close to the truth then this would have signified a breakthrough in the Middle East peace process. But never fear. It was just Nancy Pelosi, the Nation's Crazy Aunt, turning our diplomacy into an game of "telephone."

Shortly afterwards the office of Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert issued a "clarification"

During Mrs. Pelosi’s meeting with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, before her visit to Syria, the Prime Minister said that a number of Senate and House members who recently visited Damascus received the impression that despite the declarations of Bashar Assad, there is no change in the position of his country regarding a possible peace process with Israel.

The Prime Minister emphasized that although Israel is interested in peace with Syria, that country continues to be part of the axis of evil and a force that encourages terror in the entire Middle East.

In order to conduct serious and genuine peace negotiations, Syria must cease its support of terror, cease its sponsoring of the Hamas and Islamic Jihad organizations, refrain from providing weapons to Hizbוullah and bringing about the destabilizing of Lebanon, cease its support of terror in Iraq, and relinquish the strategic ties it is building with the extremist regime in Iran.

The Prime Minister clarified that by these measures it would be determined whether Syria is sincere about attaining a genuine peace with Israel.

What was communicated to the U.S. House Speaker does not contain any change in the policies of Israel, as was communicated to other foreign leaders [emphasis mine].

How long will it be before the Democrat caucus tires of the sheer numbskullery of this cretin?

Olmert gave her taht magic scarf?

(also, I'm quite distressed at seeing a picture of Nancy Pelosi followed by an ad for calculating my love compatitbility. I think I'd not be able to eat had I not already had supper. I may still have trouble sleeping. Thanks SO much. ;))

How long will it be before the Democrat caucus tires of the sheer numbskullery of this cretin?

You forget, Democrats exalt those who screw up (See Carter, Jimmah).

[Chris1228: Isn't the First Lady (an office with a Constitutional role) visiting a Holy Site located in an ally of the United States the exact same thing as the Speaker of the House (a Constitutional office charged with conducting foreign policy) bowing her head to the customs of a Congressionally recognized state sponsor of terror?

What is the difference? I can't see it! There's no difference whatsoever, you lying wingnuts! There's no difference between First Lady (visiting a Holy Site) and the Speaker of the House (conducting foreign policy)! It's right there in the 53rd Amendment!]

You lack the mental/intellectual capacity to understand the difference between a First Lady visiting a Holy Site and a Speaker of the House attempting to conduct foreign policy in contravention of the Constitution vesting that authority exclusively in the hands of the Executive.

I'm sure you cannot understand what I just wrote so it's okay if you need to go back to Rosie and get your brain refilled. I understand.

George W. Bush: He's A Folder ... Not A Fighter.

The place for trolling with these is down page.

The critical difference is that Laura Bush didn't go to Syria in defiance of the wishes of the Administration and screw up a simple message delivery.

Helen Thomas is the Crazy Old Aunt. Pelosi is the Meddling Mother-in-Law.

Recap of Pelosi's Trip (so far):

1. Brings the WRONG message from Israel to Syria regarding peace talks and now has the Israelis totally pissed off.

2. Insults half the population of Lebanon with her claim "that solutions for Lebanon run through Damascus"

3. Dons a headscarf on the streets of Damascus in order to show Assad "who's Boss"

4. I don't even want to THINK about what she will tell the Saudis

Perhaps Speaker Pelosi is finding International Diplomacy a bit more challenging than waving $20 million in front of a Congressman from a peanut-growing state to get what she wants.

Just wait until the Associated Press finishes with it. When they're done, Nancy will have brought peace to the Middle East, but the Israelis will have screwed it up. The only part I haven't figured out yet is how the AP reporter will blame George Bush.

Drink Good Coffee. You can sleep when you're dead.

Bush converted to Judaism. It's Passover. Now, since it's "Israel's fault", by default it's W's.

AP will quote Democratic sources about how Bush undermined Pelosi while she was abroad, err, overseas.

if I wasn't retching about your entirely accurate prediction. the world is upside down. sigh.

I'd give it five stars and a score of ten.

he usually saves this kind of praise for two-bit dictators and terrorist regimes.

And if the president of the country that is at most risk from Syria and the terrorists it funds has no problem with this visit, i don't see why it's wrong. Republican lawmakers also found nothing wrong in visiting Syria before Pelosi.

...and you've already misrepresented the truth twice in one post. Quite impressive, actually.

Foreign policy and foreign affairs are conducted by the Executive Branch. You are obviously too stupid to understand that.

Print this out and read it every hour, on the hour. Come back when you're 90 if you've figured it out.

Maybe Darwin was right.

One for the Israeli president, who visited Syria last December.

And one copy for Frank Wolf (V-PA), Joe Pitts (R-PA) and Robert Aderholt (R-AL), who also visited Syria on April 1st.

A 500 word essay on Israel's governmental structure (emphasis on the difference between head of state and head of government), or a 500 word essay on the duties of executive branch as opposed to the legislative branch.

Send it in, and if it's any good we'll turn your account back on.

PS: Get that enthusiast out of the Middle East before she blunderbusses her way through any more delicate diplomatic situations and we'll let the essay thing slide.

The Fuzzy Puppy of the VRWC.

And I'd be perfectly happy to have the Republican idiots who visited Syria sharing a cell with Miss Nancy for violating the Logan Act.

thread, the Michael Ware thing that was a lot larger then Ware. May we expect a leap into the water any minute from contemplative and pensive liberal visitors who were making rather merry at poor McCain's clumsiness, his self sacrifice on the altar of ridicule?

People who live in glass outhouses shouldn't throw stones, especially when you have a wizened fool like Nancy running the House. BTW, her face has more cracks and creases then A Chicago road map has lines, must be a muslim prohibition against botox and facelifting.

as the "Peace Ambassador" to the Middle East. Let her shuttle around over there for friken ever. Let's face it. She can't screw it up much worse than it is, while she can certainly screw up this country worse than it is if she is here.

I didn't see this in the news. Too bad there's no "recommend" button for front page articles.

If you're trolling -- get past the thanksgiving scarf and read the article (skipping over the words "beclowning", "numbskullery" and "cretin", if necessary).

The only way to remove her would be to expell her by a 2/3rds vote of the House (Article I, Section 5). The probability of that I would rank somewhat below the probability of a snowstorm in July in Washington D.C.

And Rightly So!

I honestly don't remember the rules for removing an incompetent SotH, but surely there must be some.

The Fuzzy Puppy of the VRWC.

But she won't be.

...I think the punishment she's getting is punishment enough. Charging her with violating the Logan Act -- which she clearly is doing -- would only take the spotlight off her foolishness.

Americans need to see that, behind all the pi$$ and wind on the left, there really isn't anything there on foreign policy in the post 9/11 world. They're naive -- and dangerously so.

So much attention and criticism has been put to the Bush Administration and its foreign policy that we've lost sight of just how difficult the global situation is. We've also taken to comparing the Bush policy not to alternative, plausible policies, but to some implausible ideal -- namely, one resting upon the faulty assumption that the Assads, Khameinis, Ahmadinejads, and Nasrallahs (not to mention the stateless jihadists out there) want peace (with Israel, the broader West, pluralist civilization, etc.).

They don't. They want victory. Why don't we?

This whole embarrassing affair ought to throw cold water, once and for all, on the idea that all we have to do is extend a hand, say nice things, wear our headscarves, smile broadly for the cameras and the conflicts will solve themselves.

Yes, she was probably violating the Logan Act. But, if we're wise enough to pay attention, she actually just did this nation a huge favor.

The Israeli President Moshe Katsav has never visited Syria as part of his official functions. Referring to an "acting" President of Israel (a purely ceremonial position by the way) has nothing to do with the Speaker of the House who is second in line for the Presidency.
