Oh, Harry.

When are you going to *learn*?

You're not just a public figure now, Senator: you're a household name. Well, at least in some households: the ones run by political obsessives. And do you know what political obsessives do, Senator?

That's right, Senator: they watch for gaffes. Like this one.

You see, when you tell the nice veteran that nobody's planning to deny the troops what they need, political obsessives like Gateway Pundit go track down the boasting press releases that say, yeah, people are. And then political obsessives like me note that, with the additional observation that some day I'd really like to find out what the Hell the Kurds ever did to the antiwar movement. Or, for that matter, what they ever did to Senator Russ Feingold.

Read on.

Now, I understand, Harry. This isn't as good a time for your side as it looks. Your base expected you to act like you've got 51 when you really had 45, and now that you kinda-sorta have 51 you have to act like you have 62. Couple that with your House counterpart blunderbussing her way through the Israel/Syria conflict... well. It gets complicated, and nobody seems to want to care about how hard it is out here for a Senate Majority Leader. So you do what you have to do in these sorts of situations: puff out your feathers and look all fierce, just like that angry bird picture that apparently gets issued to mothers all over America.

You know, this one:

Respect my authoritas.

So I grok. Really, I do. But don't lie about it. You're in bed with the antiwar movement. The least you can do for those miserable wretches is not throw the covers over your head every time somebody bursts in with a camera. That's just... tacky.

I mean, nobody made you hook up with them.

I'm guessing it would clear the Dems out of DC until it could be captured and relocated...

that he lied without flinching, as if its complete fact! I lied with such CONVICTION. Someone needs to get a longer peice of footage on this.

Jeez prevarication is something they have down cold before they even get out of secondary school.

an explicit threat, repeated numerous times by members of his party.

Who the hell does he think he's kidding?

... I try to make sure that I don't reject their ideas nearly so much as I reject their leaders. Reid and Pelosi are an embarrassment to this country. Hating George Bush so much that you'll throw your country under the bus to embarrass him is not a policy I could ever endorse, and one that I am willing to fight against.

We would also like to know your advice for somebody like my daughter, who's going to graduate in two years, advice that you would give a young person.

SEC. RUMSFELD: Advice for a young person. Study history.

While I have to agree with your sentiment, I hate to jump so far as “an embarrassment to this country”. (For some reason it reminds me of when members of our celebrity class have stepped up to a live “news” microphone to proclaim how they a “embarrassed to be an American” or some such. Ted Danson circa 1992 comes to mind for some reason. Fifteen years later and that stuff still makes my blood boil.)

Ultimately, I guess that it is true but the really sad part is that these two are what one of the two major political parties in the greatest free society on Earth CHOSE to put forward as their leadership. The way 50% of America seems to rally behind their efforts – no matter how misguided and wrong – is an embarrassment to the history of their own party as well as the country.

Not so long ago we were inundated with media coverage about a certain individual’s perceived “lack of gravitas”. Today there is total media silence as Reid and Pelosi continue to define anti-gravitas on a daily basis.
