Reasonable Observers Expected The Senate's All Night Session To Fail . . .

But few thought that the session would fail so spectacularly. And at the end of the day, how much real attention was brought to bear in order to make Republicans change their votes in advance of future debates over the reconstruction effort in Iraq? If anything, this all-nighter may have only served to solidify Republican support and make it that much harder for Democrats to pry Republicans away from the Bush Administration's position. At the very least, we can say that the all-nighter had no effect one way or the other on the shape of the debate.
Of course, it should be noted that Senators on both sides of the partisan divide pay close attention to see how well the institution is run. Clever leaders are feared. Failed leaders are scorned. And when leadership stunts flop so impressively--as they appear to have done in this case--the leadership only ends up losing power and credibility for the long term as a consequence.

I saw Senator Smith R (OR) talking to a reporter. He seems to think that if the Dems hadn't did what they did he could have gotton another 12 Republicans to cross over.
This was perfect for Dems. When the cloture vote failed, Reid yanked the bogus, toothless GOP amendments with them. Now Republicans can't claim to their constituents that they supported withdrawal/redeployment, something that is favored by a substantial majority.
When debate is resumed "moderate GOPers" will have to choose between sticking with Bush (30% approval) and the surge or redeployment.
Keep toeing the Lefty Line. Never mind the fact that every media outlet in the land (including the toadiest of the MSM) admit that the Harry Reid Show was a spectacular failure. He couldn't buy a clue if it were free.
Dingy Harry and America's Mother-in-Law - what a pair. If there is a better example of ineptitude, I'm at a loss to see it. That "substantial majority" has certainly had zero impact on their ability to get anything done. You'd think if that mythical "substantial majority" actually existed, that we'd be discussing something different.
Now go crawl back in your hole and try to think of something else to babble about.

You're the best da*n Senate Majority Leader that the GOP could have hoped for in these circumstances.
