The Democrats In Charge: Trotsky Would Be Proud

ImageSome of you complained when we posted this graphic back on January 3rd. You said we were being unfair — nasty even.

90 years ago the Communists took over Russia. They set about doing several things. One was to end multiparty rule and establish themselves as supreme. To do so, they got rid of the secret ballot. Sure, they technically had a secret ballot, but everyone knew how you voted and besides, your choices were limited.

They also took control of the media. Independent voices were not allowed. Even today, we see Soviet lovers like Vladimir Putin and Hugo Chavez shutting down privately controlled media organizations claiming those organizations are part of corrupt corporations.

Today, the Democrats intend to bring forward a vote on the Employee Free Choice Act, a Soviet style piece of union and Communist Party USA backed legislation that will deny employees a secret ballot in union elections. Union thugs will be able to intimidate and harass opponents of unionization and verify everyone follows the party line in the vote.

Likewise, Senate Democrats want to re-enforce the "Fairness Doctrine." It, like the "Employee Free Choice Act" is Orwellian in name and intention — the government would get to decide who can and cannot access radio and whether a message is conservative or liberal, thereby necessitating alternative views. The Democrats' puppet think tanks are making the case that too few corporations control the airwaves and thereby present only the conservative voice. They ignore the free market, which bankrupted the corporate backed Air America.

The Democrats seek to consolidate power by taking away secret ballots, taking away altnerative voices on the air, and by changing the language of the debate — calling "success" "failure" and "winning" "losing."

They could probably have taught Trotsky a thing or two.

Are Republicans planning on allowing this thing to be brought to the floor? If so, why?

“.....women and minorities hardest hit”

BTW Barasso has been sworn in for Wyoming.

haystack's 12th:
Conservatives (and Presidential Candidates especially) shall offer no aid and comfort to the opposition in times of legislative conflict (and ensuing political campaigns).

Voting seemed to fall almost exactly along party lines not surprisingly. Specter was the only R I caught voting aye. I did a double-take when Rockefeller was announced nay, but they quickly corrected it. All the other moderate Dems and Reps voted with their party as best I could tell, though I missed the first 20 or so yeas and nays.

Senate voting is incredibly painful. This vote started at 10:55am my time and wasn't finished until 11:20. Between quorum calls and ridiculously long voting, they must waste at least 50% of every day. Then again, that gives them less time to screw us over, so maybe it's good.

Given 51-48 covers everyone except Johnson, Arlen must have been the only crossover from either party.

Int he Soviet Union people feared speaking their minds for fear of punishment. I wonder if the fairness doctrine is not justt he liberals agenda to silence voices which oppose them. The target is conservative talk radio. I will add that Senate Bill S 1105, sponsored by Teddy Kennedy seeks to make it a hate crime for churches to preach homosexuality as wrong/a sin. I don't care what your views are regarding homosexuality, but the reality is the government cannot legislate anything. Is this the begining of oppresion for the Christians in America? Is this nearing communism/socialism? Is this going to actaully fly? Along with the fairness doctrine this bill is the libeals attemp to gain voters and minimize their opposition especially the ones that have an effective voice among people. The two largest venues for conservative values: Talk Radio and the countless Local churches across the country. Using the tactic of fear to silence people, yes, Trotsky would be proud!!

Which part of this bill are you claiming will "make it a hate crime for churches to preach homosexuality as wrong?" From my understanding, nothing that isn't already a crime would become a crime, but there would be a steeper punishment depending on motivation.

Did I miss something?

I've got it at 56-32 so far, with our "leadership" voting aye.

McConnell and Lott have screwed u by going with the Kennedy/McCain deal. I don't care if they plan to vote against it later, this bill will pass despite not following the normal processes in any way shape or form.

Looks like the total will be around 65-35 give or take a couple.

Bipartisanship = give + take. Republicans give. Democrats take.

My high school civics book was wrong... we do not live in a representative democracy.

One nation, in the courtrooms, with litigiousness and judicial activism for all.

Right or wrong, we're better off with politicians who ignore polls than those who obey them slavishly. Give me President Bush over President Clinton ANY DAY OF THE WEEK.

Run like Reagan!

a certain Hammer doing this sort of thing in congress - remember those 3 hour votes by intimidation?? It's any wonder the GOP fell apart.

I can also see the identity between extending the time to vote and ending debate on the airwaves. Much as any native speaker of English would realize that the phrase is "is it any wonder," not "it's any wonder."

We are all heroes, you and Boo and I. Hamsters and rangers everywhere, rejoice!

Must be a young'un who never listened to Bowie in the '70's...or else (s)he skipped school to protest Paraquat.

As if this was not enough, they will vote on a "Hate Crimes" bill (1105) after the Independence Day holiday. It will, among other things, pose a grave danger to religious freedom and free speech. We've seen similar legislation used to prosecute pastors. This must not be allowed to pass now or ever in this country. We can't trust the courts to strike it down, even though it is clearly unconstitutional.

When Republicans controlled the Senate, they didn't bring up nearly as many major bills in such a short time with nearly as much persistence or energy. The Democrats seem to be cramming in lots of very major pieces of legislation as fast as they can.
