The Wall Street Journal's Questions Are Answered

The Wall Street Journal has an inquiring collective mind:

Norman Hsu is one of the leading political fund-raisers in the country this year. In fact, many fund-raisers say he is one of a small handful of people capable of raising more than $1 million -- a major feat considering the maximum donation allowed by an individual for 2008 races is $4,600 per candidate.

But longtime political donors are curious: "Who is Norman Hsu?" asks Robin Chandler Duke, a former ambassador and longtime supporter of Bill and Hillary Clinton.

Comes now the Los Angeles Times with a reply:

For the last 15 years, California authorities have been trying to figure out what happened to a businessman named Norman Hsu, who pleaded no contest to grand theft, agreed to serve up to three years in prison and then seemed to vanish.

"He is a fugitive," Ronald Smetana, who handled the case for the state attorney general, said in an interview. "Do you know where he is?"

Hsu, it seems, has been hiding in plain sight, at least for the last three years.

Since 2004, one Norman Hsu has been carving out a prominent place of honor among Democratic fundraisers. He has funneled hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions into party coffers, much of it earmarked for presidential hopeful Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York.

In addition to making his own contributions, Hsu has honed the practice of assembling packets of checks from contributors who bear little resemblance to the usual Democratic deep pockets: A self-described apparel executive with a variety of business interests, Hsu has focused on delivering hefty contributions from citizens who live modest lives and are neophytes in the world of campaign giving.

On Tuesday, E. Lawrence Barcella Jr. -- a Washington lawyer who represents the Democratic fundraiser -- confirmed that Hsu was the same man who was involved in the California case. Barcella said his client did not remember pleading to a criminal charge and facing the prospect of jail time. Hsu remembers the episode as part of a settlement with creditors when he also went through bankruptcy, Barcella said.

Maybe it's just me, but I think this story ought to be getting more attention.

This thing stinks like John Huang, James Riady, Ted Sioeng, the PRC and the CCCCP. (That's the Clinton's Criminal Campaign Contribution Party!)

"Behind the ostensible government sits enthroned an invisible government owing no allegiance and acknowledging no responsibility to the people."

Theodore Roosevelt

...if you think the MSM is going to pursue this one.
MSNBC and CNBC have already cast their lots as to which side they're on. After refusing to air pro troop commercials on their networks for real money, do you think they're going to let their "Golden Girl" get tarnished by a few illegal fundraising allegations.
"If you tell a lie often enough, people will believe you"-Joseph Goebbels, and for that matter, the NYT,The WaPo, ABC, CBS, CNN, and NBC.

The money sure does seem to spill from his wallet in buckets and across many people's campaigns. No favors? Are we sure? Mr. Hsu is in the garmet industry in NYC. Wonder how many sweat shops he owns? How many NYC and NY politicians benefitted from Mr Hsu's money?

I'd like a long hard look at Mr Hsu, pronounced Shu, or is he a long lost relative of the Paw family?

Really, who is Mr. Hsu? Where are the boys at Judical Watch on this one? I cant wait to see what they find.

You know, if this were Rudy, with a shady Chinese man donating money through a surrogate family in San Fran with different names who are living in a shack at the end of a runway, who is found to be a fugitve and coincidentally a big time business mogul in the shady world of garmet biz in NYC....Are you kidding me? This would be the 24 hour cycle of CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC, Couric would cancel her Iraq trip, Moyers and Schieffer would likely run out of breath and die reporting this story!

Seriously, no BS here....This dude Craig hides this arrest from the press for a long time and it suddenly comes out and floods the airways seemingly just in time for the Hsu story to be buried in the mess of "the Republican Party reeling" stories. I guess timing is everything.

What gives? The media still runs the show.
