Chris Shays: Bully

By streiff Posted in Comments (8) / Email this page » / Leave a comment »

Chris Shays is a bully. But he doesn't bully guys like John Conyers and Henry Waxman. Nope. When he deals with those guys he usually has his lips pneumatically sealed to their fourth point of contact.

Apparently when Shays bullies people he targets working stiffs who are just doing their job.

On Thursday afternoon, Rep. Christopher Shays (R-Conn.) got into a loud, angry dispute with a U.S. Capitol Police officer at the security checkpoint inside the entrance of the West Side of the Capitol. On Friday, Shays, a veteran lawmaker, offered a public apology for the incident and said that he wants to meet with the officer personally to reiterate how sorry he is.

Shays reportedly grabbed the officer during the dispute over whether the officer should allow a group of tourists to enter the building, said several sources. Tourists are not allowed to use the West Front entrance, but Shays was trying to bring the group through that entrance anyway. The officer refused to allow them in, and Shays then "yelled and screamed" at the officer, including using profanity, the sources said.

While I don't claim that Shays's actions rise to the level of those of Cynthia McKinney (D-Looney Tunes) they do betray a tawdriness and a sense of entitlement that stand in glowing contradiction to his public persona and they are simply unacceptable in an eledted official.

The altercation brings to mind a 2006 incident with former Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-Ga.)....

Just a SLIGHT difference - Shays admitted he was wrong and apologized; McKommie called the cop a racist and said it was his fault.

1. Apologizing doesn't erase the act. He did it. It is a window on the character of the man. He's a bully. If he treats Capitol Police like this you can bet that others are treated the same way.

2. Read the last para. No one said he was like McKinney.

Next time you forget how to read, you need to forget how to post at the same time.

I was just saying at least he owned up and admitted he blew it, as opposed to the aftermath of the McKinney incident. It doesn't erase the original wrong, but it doesn't pile on with false accusations on top of the original transgreassion.

Shays sat on a committee hearing post-Katrina. The tone and nature of remarks he made toward former FEMA director Brown gave me the impression he liked being a bully to certain types of people. It is a completely different persona from the Shays being interviewed by a reporter.

"We should scrap this “comprehensive” immigration bill and the whole debate until the government can show the American people that we have secured the borders -- or at least made great headway."
Fred Thompson

In a Katrina hearing there was a lady testifying under oath that she knew the levies were blown up. I credit Shays for being bold enough to "bully" her and challenge her on that.

Ask not what you can do for your country, ask what your country can do for you. Washington Elected Elite

yell profanities in her face? I missed that. Do you have a youtube clip?

don't cha know and the little people should not look at them nor speak to them and by god don't you touch them...we the people servants to the masters.

...a Democrat in sheep's clothing. That he should occasionally exhibit Cynthia Mckinney style behaviors comes as no surprise.
