I Am Profoundly Disappointed in Bob Corker

[UPDATE] Good news: we have it straight from the horse's mouth that this was erroneously reported by Roll Call and the RMSP themselves.

RedState has enjoyed building a great friendship with Senator-Elect Bob Corker of Tennessee. He ran against Harold Ford, Jr. as a pro-life tax cutting conservative. We had Bob Corker on RedState radio more than once. My sister and her children rallied around Bob Corker in Tipton County, going out waving with Corker signs, putting Corker signs in the ground, etc. Here at RedState, we devoted lots of the front page to Bob Corker.

And so I am profoundly and deeply disappointed today to learn that Senator-Elect Corker has chosen to join the Republican Mainstreet Partnership.

The RMP is an advocate of campaign finance reform, demand side economic policy, tax increases, and other liberal agenda items. After the election, the Executive Director of the RMP put out a press release saying that the results of the 2006 election were proof that the American public did not want Republicans beholden to the "far right." In fact, the RMP issued a press release stating:

The pro-active extreme agenda of Senator Rick Santorum and his fellow extreme right cohorts such as Falwell and Robertson were responsible for the loss of this key Senate seat, among others.

The irony here is that the facts show it was the RMP liberals who suffered the greatest defeat this year.

I am profoundly and deeply disappointed that Bob Corker would choose to join a group that labeled the conservative voters of Tennessee, the people like my sister who sent him to the Senate, as "extreme" and "radical."

I donated to him, also. I think now I would have just rather bought a bottle of Scotch. Politics have neither shame, remorse, gratitude nor goodwill.

My advice is to start drinking heavily. ;-)

Better listen to him - he's in pre-med...

a nickel to Linc Chafee.

But I did donate to the NRSC.

At least with Corker's win, the GOP is a heartbeat away from the majority. And if we can prove that either of Hawaii's senators are legally dead, we could take the majority tomorrow.

In next year's Senate, Chaffee will be The Missing Linc.

2006 is done, 2008 is another day and another fight

2). Cynthia's going to have to move again.

3). The lines are now a good deal more clear.

I'm just getting more and more numb about this government right now, and I don't drink, heh.

And hey, Final Fantasy XII is shaping up to be the third in the series that I enjoy, so....

I am not disputing your claim, but we haven't seen a lot come out of the Corker camp as they've been setting up shop and etc. Where did you get the news that he's joined this organization?

I'm a fan of his, hope he'll be a great Senator, but haven't seen this elsewhere.

are all members and fine Senators. The question is whether Corker will be like them or like Chafee. I would put my money on the former. That's fine by me.

My problem with RMSP is their rhetoric and President. I don't have a problem with their members wanting to be a part of a group that lets them play the "moderate" card. Heck, I'm glad Sens. Coleman and Smith have that card in their elections in 2008.

I don't think Corker will be a RINO. He won't be a Strom Thurmond, that's for sure, but he'll probably have a voting record similar to the Senator he's replacing, Bill Frist.

Let's also not forget he's a lot better than Senator Ford would have been. I'm not sure that any of the other Republican's could have beaten Ford. 2006 was a tough year for Republicans.

If Corker's voting record indicates that he is indeed a RINO in the mold of Hagel or Chafee, he'd better watch out. TN is a conservative state, and he could easily be knocked out in a primary.

Now let's concentrate on taking out a real southern RINO, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina.

What about the other new Republican senators?

That *was* kind of funny, though.

You've been given a crapload of play because you cuddle with Mike and because you barely stay on the side of civility when you're here.

The end of the rope just slipped through your fingers. Give me a reason to toss you some more.

Let's see, it's 8:45 P.M. in Montgomery County right now. I'll give you until, say, 1:15 P.M. in Hillsborough County.

Good luck.

Seriously, this is not a big deal.

And there's no cuddling involved.

And there are several venues in which to discuss --

No, you know what? Do what you need to. I'm done for tonight.

I'm a guest here. It's not my site, and Mike can axe me at any time.

He's got a sense of humor; yours seems to have been left on the second page of the Sarasota County ballot.
