RedState Endorses Jeb Hensarling for RSC Chair

“We call on the RSC to elect Jeb Hensarling as its next Chairman.”
It is time for conservatives in Congress to put up or shut up. In the race for Chairman of the Republican Study Committee ("RSC"), there are two good men running, but only one of them proved his loyalty to the cause in the movement by a repeated willingness to vote against a rule -- a bold and courageous move for a member of the then majority. Only one of them aggressively fought wasteful government spending consistently.

That man is Jeb Hensarling and he is our choice to be the next Republican Study Committee Chairman. We mean no disrespect to his opponent in this race, but with the House GOP having returned the leaders of the majority back into their equivalent positions in the minority, we feel there should be at least one safe haven for conservatives in the minority and that should be he RSC. And when we look to see what type of leader should run the RSC, we should look to see who has been there doing the heavy lifting for both the membership of the RSC and the conservative cause in general.

Of the two men, only Jeb Hensarling has been doing the heavy lifting in the RSC. While his opponent was appropriating on the Appropriations Committee, in fact Hensarling's opponent is set to become an Appropriations Cardinal, Jeb was proposing budget alternatives to cut spending and taxes. Jeb was on the floor leading the RSC members in revolt against the earmarks, the big spending, and the out of control growth in government. Jeb was there not just saying "no," but providing conservative alternatives to leadership and Presidential big government agenda items.

At the end of the day, the Republican Study Committee needs a leader grounded in Ronald Reagan's principles and the spirit of 1994. The RSC needs a leader who understands that you cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift, you cannot help the poor man by destroying the rich, you cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income, and you cannot establish security on borrowed money. Because Jeb Hensarling has shown through his work that he understands these things, we call on the RSC to elect Jeb Hensarling as its next Chairman.

who is "his opponent" in this very important race?

In a world full of twists and turns, the ultimate twist...is a straight line.

If he's for an end to Bridges to Nowhere and porkbellying in the name of national defense then he's a sight for sore eyes. I do miss the no-nonsense conservatives of yesteryear. The ones who actually tried to curtail gov't spending rather than just playing the "but the Dems did it too" card.

Is he not running for re-election?

I would like to see who is running before deciding. Hensarling sound like a great guy, but I would love to know who else is running.

Thanks!

The truly most outstanding member of the Texas Congressional Delegation.

Todd Tiahrt, R-Kan.

Link.

It would be kind of hard for Tiahrt to be a Cardinal when he is in the minority.

It will be interesting to see who nominates both of these candidates. That should be an indication of where the RSC stands.

But if the 'Net nad RedState support Hensarling, I'll put my money on Tiahrt.

The conservative blog endorsements of certain Republican leadership candidates have really helped so far. (Sarcasm now off)
