Tancredo Backs Pence

P.S., Congress Will Face More Than One Issue In 2007-08

Some people in the tough-on-immigration crowd (you know who you are, both the restrictionists who want to reduce overall immigration and those who merely want to replace illegal with legal immigrants) have been skeptical about Mike Pence for Minority Leader because of Pence's immigration proposals.

Perhaps you should take a second look, because Tom Tancredo, the hardiest of the immigration hard-liners in the House GOP, has endorsed Pence. John Hawkins has more.

This is very magnanimous of him. Hopefully the Republican Study Committee and Tancredo's immigration hardliner caucuses can cobble together a majority to push Pence and Shadegg both over the top.

Looks like things are comming together. As has been said elsewhere, loosing power sucks. But, sometimes the ol' hedge need's a good pruning, making what's left stronger.

Now all we need to do is find someone good enough to wear the "coattails" in two years. Pence for Prez. anyone?

but it indicates Pence has probably returned to an enforcement-first position (which wouldn't surprise me). I understand that rumor has been confirmed at some internet sites.

My main concern is who will have the courage to face down the Democrats and, when needed, the Bush Administration as it turns left and tries to build a legacy on the backs of Republicans who have suffered under the burden of it. The jury is still out on whether Pence is that person.

Pence would be okay. Seems very pro-free market capitalism, which is good. Shadegg as Whip would be great.

Why no mention of Jeff Flake as Leader, though. Heard he would throw his hat in the ring.

Congressman Flake supports traditional marriage. I value that as much as his other conservative positions.
If we want to reclaim this nation we have to abolish divorce. Strengthening marriage is essential to our strength against the Islamofascist.

you're abolishing divorce? And doing it to win the war on terror. Wow. Would ya be proposing a Constitutional Amendment thingie, or maybe a new Cabinet Position that could regulate divorce out of existance? And maybe we could send everybody who's already been divorced out of the country somewhere as an example.

You can leave now. And thanks for stopping by.

I live in north central IN, Pence's turf, although my Rep is Dan Burton. What I know about Pence is based mostly from listening to him on his talk radio program here in IN before he was elected. He is a Reagan republican, fiscal and social conservative. If I had to guess, he would probably rather be at home with his family instead of serving as a rep and probably had to have his arm twisted to run in the first place. Since he ran for office, it was because he thinks he can make a difference and not to line his pockets. Same would be true if he wants the leadership position, he thinks he can do it better than anybody else. He is articulate, intelligent and totally devoted to his conservative principles. He won't back down in a confrontation. He would lose an election for his principles before he would change them. I'm all for him.

If only more people in the Republican House caucus felt the same way. Mike Pence has to be the man. The heart and sould of the Republican party is Ronald Reagan and we need someone who believes in the ideals he brought to the White House. John Boehner may be a wonderful person, but he was part of the establishment to created this mess. He's the Republican version of Dick Gephardt, boring.
