Two Thoughts for the Day

First, Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson is neither a Republican nor a conservative. We should not be surprised that his preferred stimulus package is more Keynesian than Friedman/Hayek. Bush wanted his own Robert Rubin and to his mind that equated to liberal Democrat. At least Rubin was competent and didn't use government employees on taxpayer dollars to conduct bird watching expeditions.

Second, this has to be the quote of the year and it sums up every single thing wrong with the Republicans and why they need Jeff Flake on Appropriations.

“If we get rid of earmarks, why have an Appropriations Committee?” asked one senior House appropriator.

Disgusting.

Of course, he probably won't like my answer to it, which is that the government shouldn't be spending so much that it requires a committee to do this.
