Here's a link to an excellent piece by Carter Wood, who was one of three people in Vice President Cheney's office last week for the interview that -- three or four days later -- caused the whole "torture" furor. It traces the story from actual transcript to eventual hysteria. You'll be shocked -- shocked -- to see how it was twisted and overblown by the MSM. Can't blame them really. Election Day is nigh.

It's sort of like how the left doesn't really want to end smoking, but rather to maximize the money confiscated through cigarette taxes and lawsuits.
In a similar vein, hitting 100 US deaths in Iraq in October was probably viewed by the DNC as a plus, with the only thing better being if we had hit 3,000 total by now.
Cheney spends his days in meetings, using jargon, using shorthand, and forgets, or doesn't care, that his little shorthand comment will be the brick that a mendacious conniving mainstream reporter will use to throw at his head later. And nowadays, what other kind of mainstream reporters are there, but the mendacious conniving type? Most all are nowadays, it seems.
If they actually cared there would have been an unimaginable stink concerning Rwanda during the clinton administration. They would have jumped on the bandwagon to liberate Iraq and stop Saddam's practices. Last, but not least, there would have been no protest of the Vietnam War given the well known practices of the VC and NVA.
The left only goal is to use whatever means is at hand to wound the Administration. They have no concern about any collateral damage they may produce along the way. If because of their actions in preventing our intelligence services from obtaining actionable information, there is another attack on our soil, they will not assign any blame to their own actions. They will however do whatever is necessary to tar and feather their foes.
