President Bush was to have delivered his big Iraq speech – What's the course? – before Christmas, but White House spokesman Dana Perino now says that the President will wait until after the New Year begins to talk about it. Tentatively January 1.
The extra time was needed to allow advisers to more fully prepare their analysis on the impact of the changes under consideration, White House Press Secretary Tony Snow said later. "He [Bush] decided, frankly, that it's not ready yet," Snow told reporters. He said he could not specify a date when the new strategy would be announced.
They have more reports to collect.

It means that the President is not going to deliver a feelgood ISG type speech about getting out of Iraq, but rather that he intends to increase troop levels. This is tough medicine and needs to be delivered after Christmas along with the bills, hangovers,etc.
I only hope the new policy includes some personnel changes. It's intriguing that the military advisers who met with thepresident yesterday told him he needed to change his national security team. Let's see: Rummy is already gone, Condi will stay, how about National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley? The best thing about the NSA position is that it doesn't require Senate conirmation. Sounds like a perfect job for.....John Bolton!
