The State of the Union

While we're all focused on the election, there's still a lame duck in office who gets one last State of the Union address.
It happens tonight. And the Politico reports he's going to say something nice about Nancy Pelosi.
More interesting, though, I hear that conservative members of Congress are intending to give a Republican response to the State of the Union. Good for them. They need to. I suspect, like most of the last few SoTU speeches, this one is going to be a laundry list of big government initiatives and plaintive appeals to the "ownership society" without actually doing anything to really move us toward a non-government owned society.
But then I've become cynical.
We'll see tonight.

He'll probably have a lot to say about foreign policy too, Iraq but also the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. I understand that is going be a big push for GWB, to get an agreement. Can he do it?

...will never allow it to happen -- as usual.
Been watching the Gaza Strip Melodrama lately? Been suckered in by the "we have no power!" ploy? Do you know that the Strip gets 2/3 of its power from an Israeli power plant (that the Hamas is always shooting rockets at), and that that power remained on during this last fortnight's "blackout," which was caused only by the Hamas shutting down their own power plant?
It's a game of world-opinion, appearances, and claiming victimhood. Bush and Rice have been suckered to a degree; nobody else should be, though.
re; Israel distinguishable from Bill Clinton's pre 9/11 policy?
I believe the answer to that question is no.
A horrible conclusion.
Did you catch the FoxNews interview with Bush last night? He talks about poverty causing terrorism---sounds like Edwards to me.
Bush and Rice could not be leaving soon enough.
No I didn't know about the power plant source being in Israel...if you could send a link I'd like to read up on it.

I mean, you just endorsed Hillary Clinton for President - for Pete's sake! Who would ever think you've gone cynical?
