...and the crickets chirp

President George W. Bush urged rapid deployment of a United Nations force to ensure stability in Lebanon and said the U.S. will increase aid to the war-torn nation to more than $230 million.

``The need is urgent'' to deploy the troops, Bush said at a press conference in Washington. ``The international community must now designate the leadership of this international force. more...''

Given the expected perfidy of the French and the difficulty in finding troops acceptable to the various parties, this UN mission is on the verge of being stillborn. The mission itself is so fraught with danger it is hard to conceive of a responsible government signing on for this fool's errand without robust rules of engagement.

Unless some several thousand UN troops are identified for this mission in the next couple of weeks, the odds of this cease fire taking permanent hold are nil.

I hope the cease fire fails which will demonstrate the total futility in relying on the UN for any meaningful function unless a program needs to be corrupted or children need to be raped.

Israel should send its Kerry/Olmert packing and put someone in who has the stomach to send the troops into Lebanon and kill every one who can even spell Hezbolla.

Envisioning when all that is Left is the Right.

on any foreign aid being delivered to Lebanon that Hezbollah must first be disarmed and disbanded.

Money and food are fungible. All our money and food does is take the pressure off the Lebanese government to rebuild and in turn allows Hezbollah to focus their money where it does them the most good.
