Katie Couric notes "real progress" in Iraq:

One week before Gen. David Petraeus is expected to give his report on U.S. progress in Iraq, CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric says she has already seen dramatic improvements in the country.

"We hear so much about things going bad, but real progress has been made there in terms of security and stability," Couric said Tuesday. "I mean, obviously, infrastructure problems abound, but Sunnis and U.S. forces are working together. They banded together because they had a common enemy: al Qaeda."

Couric traveled to the city of Fallujah in Anbar province, which U.S. forces entered in April 2003 and again in November 2004. That is the same city where, in house-to-house fighting, American forces uncovered nearly two-dozen torture chambers.

"We found numerous houses, also, where people were just chained to a wall for extended periods of time," U.S. military intelligence officer Major Jim West said back on Nov. 22, 2004.

"The face of Satan was here in Fallujah, and I'm absolutely convinced that that was true," said Marine Lt. Col. Gareth Brandl.

It is also the city where four American military contractors were set on fire, mutilated and hanged from a bridge by insurgents.

Now Fallujah is "considered a real role model of something working right in Iraq," Couric said.

So how is Basra doing? That's right, it is under control of Iranian-backed Shi'ite militias.

If the British just stayed there a little longer, all the people of Basra would have converted to Christianity maybe?!?!

Are you sure that your at the right blog address? Actually, I thought that Couric was (for the first time) a bit accurate... very unusual and welcome I might add...

Molon Labe!

Our gestalt opinion of Ann Coulter is hardly a secret. Also, admittedly, a disappointment to a number of our readers... but they also generally disapprove of the way that your ilk turns human beings into cardboard cutouts to promote your political agenda, so they'll probably forgive me without too much grumbling.

You may not be interested in war, but war is interested in you.

Up until now, poor Ms. Katy didn't have the resources to get a balanced assessment of what was happening on the ground. Unfortunately for her, she had to rely on the mediocre sources available to her, aka the CBS field resources. Now that her ratings are in the toilet, it was time that they take her from behind her desk and get her out where she can see for herself what's happening. And would you believe it, it's looking a bit better. Now that she's seen at least some of what's happening via the Petraeus strategy, maybe she'll take a few minutes and share it with the likes of Reid, Pelosi and Murtha.

...to begin with. (They're right of course, although they should also try looking in the mirror sometime.)

This will only cement her poor reputation.

I predicted a while ago that the Democrats would somehow "shift" their mantra on the war to a more positive one, AFTER it can do the Republicans any good and JUST IN TIME for it do to them some good. They can always blame any negative fallout on Bush and the Republicans, while hoping that the public will associate the shift in good news with the shift in power. So, unfortunately, I view any good news from liberals or the liberal media with suspicion. The only antidote I can think of for this is to continually remind the public of the "then and now." Of course, Democrat politicians like Hillary have been immensely careful about their wording so as to set themselves up. But that is not impenetrable.

My hope is to see Bush 2 "redeemed" and I hope that Rove is correct in that history, and quite soon, will treat Bush kindly. Because...so goes the members of the military who have already sacrificed so much, no matter what the "support the military, but not the mission" crowd says.

You are so cute, funnt and intellectually brilliant that you just changed my entire view of the universe in the six minutes that you've graced Redstate with your presence; or maybe not.

It certainly doesn't fit the behavior of a liberal, does it?

to be an obnoxious, snarky little twerp. For you to be so obvious in the mere five ten or so minutes that you've graced us with your presence at this site, is an impressive accomplishment. Add it your resume.

As to what Ms. Couric thinks, I neither know nor care. Nor do most people know, or care. Katie Couric would have to pull viewers in order to have a loud national voice. She repels them instead, so it's just another case of a tree falling in the forest, with no one there to hear it.

I admit my ignorance of text message jargon. It's yet another reason I'd never carry a Crackberry if I were offered one.

I voted Harry Browne in 2000, but will never vote Ron Paul.

People here are judged on how much they contribute to the site. So far, you're a waste of space and bytes. At best, we can take bets on how long you'll last here. I'm taking the under, personally.

anyone from the left give our military a thumbs up I am suspicious. Either Katie's making a play for the Fox News crowd to boost her sorry ratings or there is a darker angle they are working. Either way I will NEVER trust any thing CBS has to say.
