It's 5pm and We're Almost Halfway There

Thanks so much to all of you who have contributed so far to send Jeff and Victoria to Iraq. At 5pm, we're almost half-way to our goal. We appreciate your help.

If you have not done so, but would like to, please consider contributing to this worthy effort.

Additionally, we know this has attracted lots of trolls -- some of whom seem ticked that the Pentagon invited RedState to Iraq. We should clear this up -- Victoria has been very persistent for six months and the Pentagon finally succumbed to her persistence. And yes, we have unleashed Moe and Thomas to clean up the aisles.

Thanks again, and please do contribute.

congrats to RS for coming up with this idea. I think it's going to be a great opportunity for J & V, but also for everyone that hits RS on a regular basis.

As for the Troll Patrol...I tip my hat. What an onslaught!
Guess it shows RS is making an impact....

$200.

Instead of two invites to the e-mail circular, can I get someone to explain why I am having trouble logging in once I log out (I haven't logged out at home, but I can't get back in at work).

I realize that setting a "date certain" for these sorts of things is generally a bad idea, but if I wanted to donate another $200 on Friday, would that work? Just give me a ballpark.

We'll gladly take it any time, though we may have everything raised by then. But we'll still take it and use it to help with the PR effort, buying video tapes for the camcorder, AA batteries for Jeff's camera, etc.

Thanks!

I would have donated more today -- I think this is a fantastic effort and I'm extraordinarily proud of Victoria and Jeff and everyone on RedState for undertaking it. The only delay for me beyond the $50 is that today I helped to purchase a fairly expensive piece of equipment for my business and so until Friday I have to watch the money carefully, but this is one of the best things I've seen RedState do since the site was started, and I support it 110%.

Nice toy, esp the upgraded rip, what type of business would that be for?

We're working hard to become the premiere printing and mailing house in our neck of the woods, handling jobs from 100 pieces to 1,000,000 pieces. We've got over 30 years of combined experience in this business and our goal is to be able to provide everyone from the walk-in client to the government representative the most cost-effective and also beautifully-done mailing piece we can produce.

I'm very impressed (no pun intended) with RISO machines: the three that we have beside the 5500 are truly efficient and fascinating on a technical level. We have several other machines, including twin Xerox 4890's, and the RISOs are going to be the next addition to our hardware plant.

RISO means "Ideal" in Japanese, and frankly it's a very good description: these machines are truly different and cost-effective.

And you understand a little bit about the way it works, the first impression you get from it is that it is the Honda Accord of printing/duplicating machines: extraordinarily high quality, slightly differently realized, at relatively low cost. They have an unmistakable air of high-end Japanese engineering about them, and they just work beautifully.

Do civilians require pentagon permission to travel to Iraq currently? I guess that wouldn't surprise me...hadn't thought about it.

U.S. Citizens have never needed "permission" to travel to Iraq, although many of them until this point have thought it was inadvisable. There are a lot of U.S. citizens there right now who have traveled there all by themselves -- nonembedded journalists and entrepreneurs, and many others.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the United States has never declared Iraq to be a "forbidden zone" in terms of travel.

"Correct me if I'm wrong, but the United States has never declared Iraq to be a "forbidden zone" in terms of travel."

I have no idea. I was curious whether the Pentagon invitation was just to get into Iraq or involved some sort of special embedded status. Even without special access, Iraq has to be a captivating (if dangerous) place for journalistic types.

Where the Pentagon comes into it for us is that we're going as DOD-embedded media members, traveling via military air and actually staying with/speaking to/spending time with the troops.

That access is what the Pentagon controls.

I send my apologies to you Moe for being premature in my "Red State Introspection" post about you going soft.

I obviously was mistaken.

I hope it was taken in the cheer it was meant.
