Four years into the Long War the military command in Iraq, Multi-National Force- Iraq (MNF-I) has finally decided that the information war being waged here at home against those seeking our defeat is finally worth waging. MNF-I has established it’s own YouTube channel.

The clip featured above is from 3d Stryker Brigade Combat Team of the US Army’s 2d Infantry Division and covers a skirmish on Haifa Street. For those, like me, who like firearms, you get a chance to see a Barrett .50-cal rifle in action.

Having been a sailor, I may not be overly qualified to comment on the performance of the Iraqi soldiers, however, at first blush, they seemed to be doing pretty well. They were firing controlled three-round and single round bursts. They were aiming and communicating. Overall, they seemed to be maintaining good firing discipline. If so, it must mean they are getting better than we were led to believe.

How much fun you can have while in Iraq? This video seems to show a bunch of guys hunting deer. They aren't wearing helmets(some of them are), and they are firing grenades into who knows what. Those buildings could be housing children. I would like to think that they 'know' the buildings are abandoned and occupied by only insurgents, but this video it would seem would appeal only to the good ol' boys who like to shoot guns. In this case though, you get to shoot human beings.

Any reason we should believe otherwise?

So libs, how's that Congressional Resolution to end The War™ coming along?

How much fun you can have while in Iraq?

Getting shot at may be fun where you live, I suspect most of us don't see it that way.

This video seems to show a bunch of guys hunting deer.

Yes the elusive jihadi whitetail.

They aren't wearing helmets(some of them are), and they are firing grenades into who knows what.

Guess they don't have that body armor yet, eh?

Those buildings could be housing children.

And poor people. And the elderly. And the crippled. And poor, elderly, crippled children.

I would like to think that they 'know' the buildings are abandoned and occupied by only insurgents,

Why? They obviously didn't study and apply themselves at home, they are now "stuck in Iraq", why would they apply themselves more diligently there? I'm sure they are only shooting at buildings where they know there are civilians. Why would you shoot at an abandoned building?

but this video it would seem would appeal only to the good ol' boys who like to shoot guns. In this case though, you get to shoot human beings.

Guess the secret is out. Our Army is a bunch of gun nuts hunting the ultimate prey.

Iraq needs safety scouts, brave and selfless volunteers to go ahead of the gun happy soldiers, who you doubtless support,to bring candy bars to the children and guide families to the nearest multiplex movie theater and out of harms way. Naturally you will be unarmed, virtue being your only protection.

Just keep sticking your head through windows and doors and shouting "hi, I'm an American liberal and I love peace and hate George Bush, anybody want a hersheys candy bar?

If our soldiers don't canvas buildings and check every closet and basement before firing then it's up to you. Although if they could do that then there would be no reason to fire in the first place would there?

If anything fatal happens, if someone for example pulls a Daniel Pearl on you, at least you will be remembered as a soldier of peace and might even get front page coverage in the Times. I can just hear it, "He cared".

"a man's admiration for absolute government is proportinate to the contempt he feels for those around him". Tocqueville

I wanna be you when i grow up.

No. No other reason than to complain. :-\

Of the "Reply to This" button.

The purpose of the video was to show the Iraqi troops (those would be the ones with the AKs) working alongside their American allies and tainers and working better together than the MSM would like you to believe. As was mentioned in the first post here, they seem to be doing quite well.

There are those who look on Dresden and Tokyo and Hiroshima as some of the greatest evils ever perpetrated by man. I look on them and thank the perpetrators for saving millions.

"The purpose of the video was to show the Iraqi troops (those would be the ones with the AKs) working alongside their American allies and tainers and working better together than the MSM would like you to believe."

Is that what the video shows? Am I supposed to know that by the sound of some gunfire in the background, because I didn't notice any Iraqi troops in the video (I concede I may just be blind). That being the case, I'm not sure how this video is an entry in "the media war".

Not that I have any problem with the video. I, and I think a lot of people, would like to see more video of what's happening over there. But I'm not sure how this video in itself makes any point in favor of one side or another about how the war itself is going. Just looks like American troops doing their job well, apparently under fire. No surprise there.

There are Iraqi Army troops in the video, check out the guys using the AK-47s.

Liberal Jewish California civil litigator here. Am I supposed to be able to tell the difference between an AK-47 and a broomstick?

Am I supposed to be able to tell the difference between an AK-47 and a broomstick?

Not necessarily but considering firearms and uniforms are two of the screening criteria used in identifying military forces you probably shouldn't say stuff like:

Am I supposed to know that by the sound of some gunfire in the background, because I didn't notice any Iraqi troops in the video

The Iraqi troops are featured, with AK-47s, starting with :48 remaining on the time counter in the lower right of the video.

"A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition." -- Rudyard Kipling

I conceded the possibility that I was blind in my first post.

Nevertheless, I'm not sure that the fact that "firearms and uniforms are two of the screening criteria used in identifying military forces" is relevant to my central point. I just watched it again (4 times now) and it's still not clear to me who the Iraqis are. I have to assume that many of those who this alleged "media war" might influence are likely to have similar problems with this "screening criteria".

But whatever. Information good. Video good. Just not sure it makes the point you hope it makes.

If you read the brief story accompanying this, you'll see my point is that it is about time MNF-I started providing info sans media filtering. The video is just one of 9 currently posted on the site.

"A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition." -- Rudyard Kipling

We have a point of agreement.

The Iraqi troops are the ones wearing helmets that look like metal, meaning they don't have a cloth covering over the kevlar. Also, the AK-47's are distinguishable by among other things, the wood stock and grip, look for the people firing weapons that obviously look like wood (light to medium brown). I would never ask you to look for the arab-looking soldiers as that would be profiling.

and with the possible exception of Hillary's doesn't shoot bullets. An AK-47 is much shorter and unless you're an exceedingly short midget litigator you can't ride it.

Plus you don't usually point broomsticks at people. There, you are now qualified as an arms expert.

Would you be willing to take a pro bono case in a competence hearing on Nancy Pelosi?

"a man's admiration for absolute government is proportinate to the contempt he feels for those around him". Tocqueville

I hope I can look forward to jokes about Hillary's fat ankles in the future. Those are my absolute fave!

I got a million of them.

"a man's admiration for absolute government is proportinate to the contempt he feels for those around him". Tocqueville

Pathetic as my internet search skills are, even I know how to Google "AK" or "AK-47"...
As a litigator, civil or otherwise, your research skills should be of superior quality, so all I get fromthis post is "I'm a Liberal lawyer, so you should expect me to be lazy..."

There are those who look on Dresden and Tokyo and Hiroshima as some of the greatest evils ever perpetrated by man. I look on them and thank the perpetrators for saving millions.

The proper message you should have taken from my post is, "I'm from California, so you should expect me to be lazy." Or maybe it's, "I'm Jewish, so you should expect me to not know how to use Google." Or maybe, "It is Saturday, so Hillary Clinton has Cankles." I don't know ... one of those things.

Good answer. Though the California and Clinton bits are the only possible substitutes for the message I got...
Nothing wrong with being Jewish, after all. It means nothing other than claiming title of "God's Chosen People" (which I admit, is entirely possibly true)

There are those who look on Dresden and Tokyo and Hiroshima as some of the greatest evils ever perpetrated by man. I look on them and thank the perpetrators for saving millions.

is pretty consistent with their condescension towards Iraqis in general, viewing them as people we never should have cared enough about to help.

And they try to call us racist.

lesterblog.blogspot.com

What have we come to as a nation, what about civilian casualties, collateral damage, never mind the diversion of funds from federal aid to education and padding the teachers pockets.

Haven't these guys got the message? This is an immoral war, we are supposed to be losing and they look like they are fighting to win. Haven't they heard of Viet Nam, they're supposed to be demoralized. Where the hell is Dick Durbin at a moment like this? Give peace a chance.

"a man's admiration for absolute government is proportinate to the contempt he feels for those around him". Tocqueville

War is tragic, but once we decice to enter, "shooting to kill" is exactly what we should do. If we can avoid civilian casualties without increasing the risk to our men, all to the good. But better ten dead civilians from the enemy people than an additional American coming home in a body bag because we obeyed our "duty" to avoid "collateral damage." Funny how our enemies don't have the same calculus of favoring our lives over theirs.

Now if we can just get a Border Patrol that's instructed to "shoot to kill" those who are invading from the south.

" in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years."
Abe Lincoln

But every nation has the right to defend its borders with force; that is one of the most essential attributes of sovereignty and independence.

We didn't take this continent by being timid, and we didn't keep our land and our way of life by letting foreign peoples ignore our borders.

Even conservatives have gotten accustomed to the strange notion that it's "harsh" or "extreme" or "bigoted" to kill invaders. People who demand to enter our territory against our wishes and laws are invaders and must be dealt with accordingly.

(Honestly, would Mexico hesitate to shoot Americans if we decided we have the "right" to send 50 million Americans across the border, without their permission, to settle and remake northern Mexico with our language, culture, and values?)

To minimize the need for defensive violence on the border, let's get going and build whatever barriers are necessary (a wall, electrified fence, whatever). If foreigners insist on trying to scale or destroy the barriers, we have every right to shoot them. Somehow I doubt it would take a whole lot of dead invaders before they'd get the message.

Streiff pretty much made a point ...

" in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years."
Abe Lincoln

Defending the borders is a legitimate job of government, no matter how conservative, libertarian, or small government you are.

Sadly, we are probably about the only country that does not stop invaders, by whatever means are necessary. It's amazing that a great nation like ours lacks the very will to defend itself.

I fear for the future of my country.

" in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years."
Abe Lincoln

Name an non-totalitarian country that kills people crossing its borders. Let's start with Canada and go from there

"A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition." -- Rudyard Kipling

I specifically said FIFTY MILLION PEOPLE. Add up the estimates of non-Americans who have entered America in violation of our laws over the past 20 years. Then extrapolate into the future just another 10 years. Or 20 years. How many invaders - sorry, "undocumented persons" - do you end up with?

Does that have consequences for the survival of our common language?

Does it have consequences for the survival of our traditional values, customs, and culture in some form that's recognizable to us?

Does it have consequencs for the survival of what's left of our system of limited government, the rule of law, private property rights, and free enterprise?

Does it have consequences for our rates of violence and property crime?

Does it have consequences for the adequacy of increasingly scarce water resources in the Southwest?

Allowing tens of millions of foreigners to enter the country in disregard of the country's people has serious consequences on all these fronts.

I stand by my assertion that Mexico would never allow 50 million Americans to enter their territory illegally and effectively colonize it. And Mexico would not be wrong.

"A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition." -- Rudyard Kipling

and i still like the Kipling quote.

Canada does not border a country with a rapidly growing population (about 110 million) that desperately wants to escape the poverty, corruption, and lack of freedom in its home.

We do.

Defend the border by any means necessary. If you are serious about defense, nobody could get close enough to that border to get shot. But I would not mind if they had that fear, or any fear!

How about we handle our border the way the Mexicans are handling their southern border, and have our planes ready to take the illegal mexicans home just like the mexicans do the illegals from central america?

In other words, be serious about defending our borders from whomever may try to cross. Arrest those that try to cross, and support our border guards when they are forced to shoot in the line of duty!

this isn't a immigration/border control story, stop the threadjack.

Second, what I said to Americaforever applies to you.

"A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition." -- Rudyard Kipling

Thats a fact just a few hundred Goths coming across the Danube Rivereveryday for an extended period of time destroyed the great Roman empire.

http://goliath.ecnext.com/comsite5/bin/pdinventory.pl?pdlanding=1&referi...

streiff might have to ban you.

Why would I be banned for what I once saw on the History Channel and is a historic fact. Their is a series called the barbarians that has been running on the history channel and it points out that the Visigoths kept coming into Rome everyday across the Danube and that it destroyed Rome.

that your statement is factually correct and should serve as a warning to Americans. I just hope you and I are allowed to keep honestly posting our thoughts and proposals even if they upset some people.

anything that even approximates your last para ever again and we'll write off this faux pas to irrational exuberance.

If you've got an issue with this take it up with the Directors because I don't intend to argue the point.

"A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition." -- Rudyard Kipling

the suggestion that we should defend our borders with force? What is the point of having borders, or a country at all?

You may chalk my proposal up to "irrational exuberance" and I will chalk yours up to irrational complacency about the invasion of our country.

I know you care about this country as much as I do, and I urge you to consider the consequences if we continue failing to re-establish our borders.

Comments like yours play into every negative stereotype anyone has about conservatives and those who wish to limit immigration.

We have struggled too long and too hard on this site to keep this type of statement relegated to the dark and disreputable corners of the political spectrum where it belongs.

This isn't a joking matter. I need an acknowledgement that your statement was hyperbole because if it wasn't you no longer post here.

"A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition." -- Rudyard Kipling

that my statement was hyberbole." There you go.

However, I would like to see you poll all redstate contributors and ban anyone who believes that the United States of America has the right to use deadly force to repel non-Americans from entering the country in violation of our laws and expressed wishes.

I share Bob Frazier's sentiment: "I fear for my country."

that is between them, their conscience, and God.

I can control what they say on this website.

Now this threadjack is over.

"A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition." -- Rudyard Kipling

on Kipling's hearty endorsement of red wine, good books, and ammo ;)

(just no mixing wine with guns, please)

Gave me a chance to show my 16-year-old son what real-world COD3 looks and sounds like.

For all the positives of seeing this on the home front, though, I do have one question: is there any potential intel/tactical compromise in showing this much detail to the world?

(absolute non-snark)

soli Deo gloria

see the link, the videos are screened to prevent OPSEC violations.

"A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition." -- Rudyard Kipling

I missed that. Now can rest easy.

soli Deo gloria

Would it be wrong to say I enjoyed this? I only say that in the sense of cool heads, teamwork with Iraqi's, measured use of force and controlled firing.

Secondarily, I enjoyed the plaster falling with each shot.

Last, I was getting tired of watching Deuce Four on YouTube (plus I did not know if they were intel violations)

Why didn't they show the enemy either firing back or just plain getting hit?
And why Was the ceiling falling every time the guy lit off with the heavy weapon? Is it just that Loud?
