Michael Totten's post on the Anbar Awakening deserves a read. Especially if you are the type of person who wants to find some good news in Iraq to justifiably be pleased over.

Go over and read. You will be happy you did . . . until, of course, you contemplate the possibility that the reconstruction effort in Iraq may be short-circuited by people who won't give the significance of the Anbar Awakening the time of day.

And yes, I know that what works in Anbar will not necessarily work elsewhere. But as Totten points out, Ramadi was once a nightmare of a city. Anbar was once a godforsaken part of Iraq. Matters have changed by 180 degrees. And after reading all that I have read about the Anbar Awakening, I have to believe that there are tactics and strategies available relative to other parts of Iraq that will bring about similar happy results.
