As Erick notes below, the Army investigation has resulted in all soldiers in Scott Thomas Beauchamp's platoon disavowing the "vignettes", as The New Republic's Frankin Foer so quaintly calls a series of direct assaults upon the reputation of the US Armed Forces, which appeared on TNR's pages. This number quite possibly includes Beauchamp himself.
There is an increasing body of evidence that not only were the Beauchamp "vignettes" false but that TNR has been a lot less than candid on its fact checking.
[UPDATE: hmmmm, maybe they just can't help themselves.]
Read on.
We know TNR's fact checking leviathan is not the reason people buy the magazine. This is the former employer of Stephen Glass... and of Scott Thomas Beauchamp... we're talking about. In their risible effort at damage control they admit that they didn't catch the fact that one of the key incidents in the story occurred in the wrong country (okay, I know, they are both hot and sandy and have oil and lots of brown folks so I see how a bunch of liberals schooled in identity politics would think they all look alike). As Charles Krauthammer notes:
Except that it is now revealed that the mess-hall incident happened before he even got to the war. On which point, the whole story -- and the whole morality tale it was meant to suggest -- collapses.
And it makes the rest of the narrative banal and uninteresting. It's the story of a disgusting human being, a mocker of the disfigured, who then goes to Iraq and, as such human beings are wont to do, finds the company of other such human beings who kill dogs for sport, wear the bones of dead children on their heads and find similar amusement in mocking the disfigured.
Since then Ace at Ace of Spades has deconstructed the list of corroborating witnesses and concludes that, fairly read, TNR may in fact have only talked to one person.
The coup, however, belongs to Confederate Yankee who actually contacts the same person TNR contacted as their expert on the Bradley. Needless to say, he doesn't get the same answers.
In a sure sign that the Four Horsemen are saddling up, even the Associated Press has decided this stinks though Captain Jamil Hussein still hasn't weighed in on the issue. When Reuters decides this is beyond the Pale, that knock at your front door will be Death, Plague, Famine, and War showing up for dinner.

the link in that bracketed update comment is great.
Perhaps they are just following standard ADSCAM eithical procedures?
TNR is a liberal magazine, with a relatively small---but very liberal---readership. Many liberals like reading stories that reinforce their beliefs that BusHitler's war is wrong. Beauchamp provided TNR with copy that they knew its readers would devour.
Now that Beauchamp's stories have been discredited, I suspect that many TNR readers are willing to assert/believe that, if these particular stories aren't true...well, there are certainly other stories just like this one that ARE true, so no matter! Plus, they feel oh so good when reading them, they're willing to overlook sniggling little details like truthfulness. (Hey, what is "truth," anyway?)
TF Foer, sensing this, now only has to come up with defenses that are "plausible," or "good enough." For, the TNR readership WANTS to accept Foer's explanations so much, they're willing to accept most any explanation/defense, no matter how shallow.

be court marshaled and spend some years in Leavenworth. At the very least, he should be dishonorably discharged and his record should be make public. This guy's reputation, along with what's left of Foer's and TNR's, should be systematically ground to dust. STB should never be able to raise his head in pubic again.

First, it's court-martialed. Sorry to correct, pet peeve.
Second, he should absolutely get a punitive discharge. If not dishonorable at least get the big chicken dinner. I'm confident he won't get away with this.
And I knew it was wrong when I hit "Post". And just to make matters worse, I did it more than once.
I'll be in the corner with my pointy cap on if you need me for anything.

They are standing by their (employee's) man:
IMHO, the fine people at TNR are setting themselves up to beome martyred by the VRWC. We all know how the left just adores "victims". It will help them with their street cred. Donations too! Che t-shirt sales will skyrocket!
It also allows them to show solidarity with their friends in the various nihilistic jihadi movements around the world.
Since when has something as trivial as facts or objective truth been a concern of communists?
An armed man is a citizen. An unarmed man is a subject.
The new TNR is out! heh

The person that CY spoke with said someone from TNR contacted him and asked him general questions. Now, I'm splitting hairs here, but we all know who we're dealing with...
TNR did not identify the individual who they say verified the Bradley's capabilities. I expect them to be caterwauling about how the guy CY talked to was only one of their sources at the manufacturer. And, oh yeah, the "other" source(s) have requested anonymity.
