Omar Has A Question

Why are you doing this to us?

Our great friends Omar and Mohammed want to know just exactly WHY the Democrats (and SOME Republicans) think:

My life and the lives of twenty-five other million Iraqis are evidently not worth trying for.

The full text of his article is over at Pajamas Media, and he genuinely wants to understand how it is our anti-war crowd has come to the conclusion that:

It’s not worth it.Time to leave

More below the fold...

Omar has a valid question, and I should think our friends who have come to power on the voice of an America they maintain has asked for a new direction might be up to the task of answering this in clear, plain terms. I also think they should spell out what they envision will happen when we DO pull out. Omar has a pretty good idea what that will be like, and I challenge them to convince the rest of us this comment isn't a possibility and is something none of us need to worry ourselves with:

If [this war] is not [won] the world as you in the United States know it today (and as we here in Iraq dream for it to become) will exist only in books of history. The forces of extremism that we confront today are more determined, more resourceful, and more barbaric than the Nazi or the communists of the past. Add to that the weapons they can improvise or acquire through their unholy alliance with rogue regimes, combined with their fluid structure and mobility… well, they can be more deadly than any forces we have faced in the past. Much more.
[...]
Just look at this one example of how the terrorists are going to make benefit from the defeatism of democrats. Al-Jazeera, the unofficial mouthpiece of al-Qaeda posted this on the same day the House passed the wretched bill:

Dadullah said: “Thank God, he is alive, we get updated information about it. Thank God, he plans the operations in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

In no time al-Qaeda and all similarly extremist factions will start boasting about how America is fleeing Iraq under the heavy blows of the “Mujahideen” planned by OBL himself.

The Democrats just offered al-Qaeda victory on a silver plate. For free. An imaginary victory for sure, for now, but it can still be used by al-Qaeda to promote their ideology of death and attract more recruits.

“America’s will can be broken, America is not invincible,” they will say in a thousand ways. Is this the kind of message you want to send to the enemy?

Anyone in the anti-war crowd got an alternate reality for us? Me and Omar would surely love to hear it.

Even though he is in Iraq, the man is astute enough about American politics to make a pretty sensible observation about our "ways" of politicking:

The political game the Democrats are playing has gone farther than it should have. Before they took over the congress they were complaining that there had been no feasible plan for winning the war. Now that such plan exists and thousands of American soldiers are working hard with the millions of good Iraqis to make it work, they wish to turn their backs on it.

I understood that by winning a majority in the legislature the Democrats were supposed to guide America to victory by correcting the mistakes of the past. Obviously I was wrong; they have put all their efforts into making sure the exact opposite outcome happens.

Here, Omar and I couldn't be more strongly in agreement. My only quibble with him would be that he left out a few Republicans. Hagel and Smith in the Senate, and Jones and Gilchrest in the House...but otherwise he's spot on.

In a piece Omar did in the Opinion Journal, Omar suggests that losing is not an option, and here's why:

I am an Iraqi so naturally I am only interested in what's going on within the borders of my country or even the city where I live, just like most people in the Third World are, and this is fine and expected.

But what's neither fine nor acceptable is to see politicians and decision-makers, who are supposed to be the leaders of the new world order, think and behave in the same manner as third world citizens.

All they seem to think about is how to get away from this debilitating conflict in Iraq no matter what the outcome would be. Even worse, few people seem to realize what the amplifications of a defeat in Iraq would be on the Middle East and the rest of our small global village.

The situation is bad in Iraq, it's bad for both Iraqis and Americans alike and the looking at way the war is being managed right now makes me extremely worried about the future of our world. I am that worried that I feel I, or the next generations of my people, won't be safe in this world even if we were born and lived elsewhere.

It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that Iraq might turn into a second Somalia within a year if the situation is allowed to keep descending the way it's doing now.

The Islamic Sharia courts are ruling now in Somalia while in Iraq they function undercover and it's still in our hands to stop them from extending their influence and from becoming the rule instead of the exception they are today.

Let's call the battle for middle east, and I think politicians do not need anyone to explain to them what this part of the world means . . . the outcome of war in Iraq does not affect Iraq alone, a victory means disrupting the ring of terror and extremism the enemies are trying to establish while failure would be equal to allowing them to establish that huge ring, or should I say that gigantic octopus of terrorists and terror-supporting regimes that would extend from Afghanistan in the east to Libya in the west and from Iraq in the north to Sudan and Somalia in the south.

And instead of creating islands of democracy and liberty, connecting them and extend from there to change the world to the better, the enemies would engulf those islands and add them to their multi-jointed entity of terror.

We need the decision-makers to rise above the rhetoric of who's right and who's wrong and focus on protecting the world from falling prey to the vicious enemies of civilization.

We are in the middle of this situation now and losing is not an option.

You know what, maybe the world isn't going to harvest direct benefits from winning the battle of Iraq but the world still has to spare no effort to win this battle, again not because winning will bring direct benefits but because losing here will bring subsequent losses that would no doubt be great.

It seems clear enough to us that our anti-war movement doesn't see this as possible or worth trying for. Sadly, for the Iraqis, it's just what they need and they are depending on us to help them achieve it.Omar gets the last word here, but catch the passage about the collective gratefulness of the Iraqis should the anti-war crowd get their way:

Instead coming up with ideas to help the US Democrats are trying to stop the effort to stabilize Iraq and rescue the Middle East from a catastrophe.

I am an Iraqi. To me the possible consequences of this vote are terrifying. Just as we began to see signs of progress in my country the Democrats come and say, ‘Well, it’s not worth it.Time to leave’.

To the Democrats my life and the lives of twenty-five other million Iraqis are evidently not worth trying for. They shouldn’t expect us to be grateful for this.

For four years everybody made mistakes. The administration made mistakes and admitted them. My people and leaders made mistakes as well and we regret them.

But now, in the last two months, we have had a fresh start; a new strategy with new ideas and tactics. These were reached after studying previous mistakes and were designed to reverse the setbacks we witnessed in the course of this war.

This strategy, although its tools are not yet even fully deployed, is showing promising signs of progress.

General Petraeus said yesterday that things will get tougher before they get easier in Iraq. This is the sort of of fact-based, realistic assessment of the situation which politicians should listen to when they discuss the war thousands of miles away.

We must give this effort the chance it deserves. We should provide all the support necessary. We should heed constructive critique, not the empty rhetoric that the ‘war is lost.’

It is not lost. Quitting is not an option we can afford—not in America and definitely not in Iraq.

Godspeed Omar, Mohammed, Iraq, and our brave Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines-SOME of us are here for you and praying for your safety and success.

don't want to answer and won't. They are cowards and life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness means nothing to them when comes to anyone but themselves.

Change course instead of quit and pray they don't follow.
Even the sign maker who created that thing covering the podium should be ashamed. Maybe he is, the motley bunch around it aren't. They assuredly didn't even give a passing thought to the plot just broken up in Saudi Arabia and the implications that should scream in their faces.

If and when the terrorists follow us home, and strike, American liberals will hate Bush even more. Be certain of it, not the terrorists, Bush.

And if the Republicans and President Bush let them succeed, I am ashamed of my country.

Those who live by the sword get shot by those who don't.

I believe one of the major problems is the lack of press generated by the Iraqis expressing their cause here in the U.S. The Iraqi ambassador should be on TV everyday making the Iraqi case to the American public. There should be a few Iraqis whose only job is to sell Iraq to the American people. They should attempt to get on every news Chanel and show as often as possible. They must keep their message coming. Don’t let the American public forget that it is real live human beings and not some ideologic talking point that is being talked about.

The Kurds’ commercials were great but they didn’t run long enough. The American people have forgotten that we actually did something good and that there a lot of people who are thankful. The Americans live in a society of sound bites. What isn’t constantly in front them, they soon forget about. The Iraqis need to hire a marketing specialist to help sell their message and keep it in front of the American people until well past the time it is no longer needed..

Omar has every right to be angry at the clueless democracts, but he should be just as angry at Iraqi leaders. They still don't have an oil law after years of talks. It's time for them to get their act together, because if they don't we will have no choice but to leave.

33 years since the Arab Oil Embargo of '74, so let's not get too righteous. This country hasn't taken one meaningful step to develop our own resources and lessen our dependency on ME oil since Spiro Agnew cast the deciding vote to authorize the TransAlaska Pipeline. Even when their were still gas lines and price inflation was crippling the US economy, it took the VP's vote to authorize us helping ourselves.

I have a little experience with what it takes to try to divvy up state oil revenue between various regions and constituencies. We have far more established democratic traditions and institutions in Alaska than they do in Iraq, and you can have one Helluva good fight about who gets what part of the pie anytime you want it.
In Vino Veritas

I can't think of a single subject that America has agreed on in the last 4 years.
Illegal immigration - not fixed
Social Security system - not fixed
Killing of inconvenient children - not fixed

The list goes on and on. I know someone is going to claim threadjack, but it doesn't make sense to hold Iraqi leaders to some imaginary standard that we don't hold American leaders to, in my opinion. I am only responding to the no oil law comment.

a clear indication to the mindless of undoubted and touching sincerity.

Quick, who was the last major public figure, or psychopath, who always used this physical prop, invariably when he was lying on the outside and laughing on the inside.

Right, Bill Clinton, close friend to the Chinese missile development effort, gracious receiver of bribes from the Peoples Republic of Vietnam, and serial sexual assaulter adored by female journalists.

In more ways then one Harry Reid and his compatriots carry on a tradition.

Clearly, it comes as some surprise to you that this war is an abysmal failure. If you'd been paying attention, you wouldn't be surprised at all. Who's responsible? And if it results in a pull-out, a defeat, tell me who screwed up.

Your Glorious Leader might have, just might have, something to do with it. Face it and move on.

After all, the Democrats have been so helpful and supportive.

War is tough. That's why we don't need gutless preeners running the show right now, but that is what we have.

Congratulations - your side won. And the world is a much, much more dangerous place. Hard to move on from, say, a 9/11. And if you don't know whose fault that was, maybe I can clue you in.
It wasn't George Bush.

It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that Iraq might turn into a second Somalia within a year if the situation is allowed to keep descending the way it's doing now.

Then somebody had better get serious about it!

Bush is going to veto the bill, which is probably for the best, but I'm looking for much more effective action than we've seen so far. Sounds like Omar is, as well, if he considers the situation to be "descending" in its current form.

Just leaving with the patient still on the operating table is probably a bad idea, no matter how badly the surgery is going. The real question is: do we have the skills to pull this off?

That question has been on my mind since I was a youngster watching the neverending conflict in the Middle East. Who are these people? How do we fight them? How do we find them? How do we win?

Here's a thought experiment: 0.5% of the US population, well distributed, has decided to destabilize the country by any means possible. What is the effective response?

It's not so easy to find a solution.

looking at way the war is being managed right now makes me extremely worried about the future of our world.

So my question for the administration is, what exactly in the plan is going to change right now? Bush can bag on the Dems all he wants, but I consider that to be a dodge of responsibility. Simply opposing the Democrats is not going to change how the war is managed.

You're President! Veto the bill en passant, and get to work!

We know they are waiting until a spineless crew of women and half-men like Reid are in charge. Kucinich would be their choice for Prez. Then they could terrorize with impunity, since the denial-function of the Dems would blame Malls exploding on Global Warming or the aftereffects of Bushitler.

Reid is a treasonous liar---he swore last fall he would not link budgets to war policy if elected in November and now he is lying his way to some sort of new record for being a bumbling embarassment---and that's what the Democrats call him!

Pelosi is California dreamin' and Reid is Nevada schemin'

Reid, Pelosi, Murtha, Schumer, Emmanuel, Waxman.... they all HATE Bush MORE than they LOVE America.

Most of America supports Pelosi, Murtha, Schumer, Emmanuel, and Waxman. Got that? Know why? Because most of America is free to say so. Thank God. Loving America has NOTHING to do with hating Bush. Loving America has to do with letting the people decide. If Pelosi, Murtha, Schumer, Emmanuel, and Waxman represent the majority, then so be it.

I would feel a little better towards your efforts and your Glorious Party if they had an original thought or viable plan to offer to anyone other than the terrorists. Perhaps you do, if not your party, and are waiting to spring it on us.

It requires a certain obtuseness to talk about and work for retreat with nothing else to offer, no thought of what happens afterwards,no consequences considered, no allowances for what the terrorists will think, plan, or do.

I will therefore humbly suggest that you climb down from your perch, calm yourself, and divest yourself from the righteousness that causes your emotions to soar, your rhetoric to boil, and your mind to melt.

As an aide and prelude you may read and consider my first two posts on this thread. There in you will find at least one dark hint about how much your Glorious Party loves America.
It's worth, well, thinking about.

After that I will be available for further consultation, probably later in the PM.

"a man's admiration for absolute government is proportinate to the contempt he feels for those around him". Tocqueville

Most of America believes that the young men and women on front lines in Iraq and Afghanistan are the very best this nation has to offer, and are to be honored and supported.

Most of America would never leave their troops' basic supplies, training programs and heavy artillery unfunded after having sent these brave young people to fight several thousand miles away.

Most of America understands that an amorphous group of Islamic fanatics seek to topple Western democracies, including our own, replacing government by ballot box with government by religious law.

Most of America realizes that "seeking to understand why" this group so dislikes and disrespects our way of living is not going to put them on notice that we will not stand for assaults on our way of life, our cities's structures and our residents' lives.

plus Reid and the other Democrat leaders represent only the American Leftist Terrorist Supporters. They do not represent America.

...There's a petition up over at Townhall that is going to be sent to Harry Reid showing all the Americans that DON'T think we have lost in Iraq. I think it's great - just got done signing it. Anyway, the link is here:
