The Petition

You'll notice the graphic at the top of the site encouraging you to sign the petition. RedState and a number of other blogs have gotten together to do this petition, with the help of N.Z. Bear. If you believe we should achieve success in Iraq and if you want to join us in calling on our national leaders and fellow citizens to resist calls for a premature withdrawal from Iraq and to support America's troops under the new commander, Gen. David Petraeus, as they implement a bold new strategy designed to bring a successful completion to their mission, then you should sign the petition.

Forget the petition what we need to do is start a recruitment drive to ensure we have enough troops to attain victory. I'm thinking about 100k more troops are needed to ensure "all" parts of the country are secure to include the borders. I think volunteering to serve would be way more beneficial to the war effort than a signature. The primary goal of securing the country is to prevent outsiders from interfering with the meat of our strategy.
Strategy
Let's face it none of the factions are going to reconcile anytime soon. They will kill each other, and us, regardless of whether we are there or not. So why not let nature takes its course, put it in the hands of god so to speak and let him decide. What we do is, we secure the borders so the ebil Persians and Arabs can't interfere. Then we let all three factions duke it out, whomever is left standing is who we deal with.

much without persuading the govt to increase the military.
But a successful recruitment drive could help with that effort.
Define "bold new strategy" please.
Define "bring a successful completion to their mission" please.
In layman's terms for the audience.
You wouldn't understand them or care anyway.

the reason is that it is instructive of the generic talking points that the left has. I also answer each of your questions in it and a few more that I am sure you are dying to answer.

I hope that answers it in "layman's" terms.

I signed it, and I thank you all so much for this and all the other things you have done. We never would have had the time needed to bring Iraq to the point it is at now had it not been for citizens like those here at Redstate standing up and telling congress that retreat and surrender were unacceptable.
Don't give up. Think of the soldier that is right now on hour 3 of 4 spent in 120 degree weather wearing full body armor standing in a 60 foot guard tower. He will not give up. Think of the Marine marching - in 120 degree heat wearing full body armor - into battle with terrorists. He will not give up.
One thing I take from my experience in the military, before, during and after going to Iraq, is this: I used to think America's military men and women were amazing - it turns out I was underestimating them.
Honor their service. Honor their sacrifice. Support the completion of the mission. Support Victory. Hooah!
How many more brave men have to die?
Saddam is dead, no WMDs are left in Iraq, and the Iraqis have elected a government to sort out their own problems. It's time to come home.
Seven years ago, the Republican Party was on the rise -- taking control of the White House, the Senate, and the House of Representatives, with an increasingly conservative electorate backing them up.
Now thanks to the neocons and their dreams of empire, the GOP is in a shambles, Democrats have control of Congress, and if we nominate a presidential candidate who will continue the occupation of Iraq, the Democrats will win, raise taxes, and ruin what's left of our health care system and our economy.
we stay until we complete the mission, or are asked to leave.

"How many more brave men have to die?"
The answer those brave men (and women) will give you...
As many as it takes.
I was going to add that exact comment, but it means more coming from you.
Blessings...

You mean when we lost 5 senate seats and had to split power with the Democrats (at least for 5 months until Jumpin Jim jumped)? Or do you mean when Bush lost the popular vote (but thankfully had the EC)?
Oh the problems with memory, everything was better in the old days because we remember the good and not so much the bad.

A year ago 15 of the 18 Iraqi provinces were pacified. The Kurdish provinces were peaceful. the all Shia South was peaceful. The daily War took place in only three Anbar, Diyallah and Baghdad city province, (includes its suburbs).
The Surge has pounded all three provinces; Anbar appears almost pacified. Diyallah appears on the way to pacification too.
According to Time magazine last fall, we controlled 20% of Baghdad. According to Time magazine demeaning the efforts, we only control 60% of Baghdad Province today.
So 17 of 18 provinces are pacified. The Iraqi Army has been at planned manning levels for 6 months, now; and the national police manning levels are almost at planned levels.
The correlation of forces is rapidly outdistancing Al Queda's ability to match.

might say as an introduction to his testimony.
"Senators and distinguished guests, I would like to thank you for the opportunity to testify in respect of progress in the Battle of Iraq. Before I do however, there are a few things I'd like to get off of my chest. Although your house of Congress confirmed me as commander by a unanimous vote, some of you have made it a point to undermine me as I lead our soldiers in battle. Even as we are fighting the battle, some of you have declared it lost. That was also the plain meaning of the House and Senate resolutions passed in March and April, as we were fighting the war. You have sought to undercut my own report to you with the guess work of the General Accountability Office, an office that lacks professional intelligence analysts and access to the data of our military.
"So I would like to begin by asking you to stop all of this. Our country is at war, and I am reporting to you that the enemy views the Congress of the United States as a theater. When the enemy heard that you intend to end our military strategy irrespective of the outcome of the surge I was sent to lead, the enemy became emboldened and persuaded that he could wait us out. Our future allies, whom we are bringing over to Iraq's side against the terrorists every day, will waver or defect if they think there is a chance you here in Congress will call the soldiers home before we finish clearing and holding the provinces and neighborhoods.
