Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice ruled out a direct U.S. role in Northern Pakistan, where bin Laden's al-Qaeda is resurgent.

Appearing before the Senate Appropriations Committee said Pakistan has a strong interest in not allowing extremism breed in the area:

"We believe that we have the commitment of the Pakistanis to fight these extremists because they threaten Pakistan as well," she said.

Rice and General Pace also ruled out the use of American forces in parts of Northern Pakistan with a view to wiping out or eliminating the leadership of the al Qaeda

I just don't get. The Director of National Intelligence McConnell tells the Senate Armed Services Committee that Osama bin Laden is in Pakistan reestablishing al-Qaeda training camps, and the Secretary of State and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs say we won't do anything about it. Couldn't they have at least left all the options on the table? You know, remind President Musharraf about his choices.

Now where was it I heard that?

Congressmen who willfully take actions during wartime that damage morale and undermine the military are saboteurs and should be arrested, exiled, or hanged.

Of course we're saying no US troops in Pakistan. The people there would riot and there would likely be a coup against Musharraf. We would then lose our ally in the country and a nuclear nation would now be firmly against the United States and America would have to risk war against this new enemy at a time when we can ill afford it. Don't worry, America will conduct operations against terrorists in Pakistan. I'm sure we are already doing so. Just because it will never hit the front page of the NY Times doesn't mean it won't happen. Stop taking government employees at their word.

International Affairs is just Political Science with an accent.

That area is a perfect place to test the neutron bomb.
