Reed Irvine: R.I.P.

Many bloggers and blog-reader might not even know who Reed Irvine was, nor understand the debt we owe him as conservatives, and as the alternative media he so hoped would emerge during his half-century of activism.

But that debt is tremendous. Reed Irvine founded the first media "watchdog" organization - Accuracy in Media. He passed away last night.

May God bless you and your family, Reed - your service to country, to conservative movement, has been tremendous - may you find the peace and rest you deserve.

We'll update this post with articles and editorials about Reed's passing. I'll be keeping my eye on Dan Flynn today, whom I expect will have much to say.

The Canada Free Press has posted their "Farewell to a True Life Hero"

"You can rest in peace, restless hero of the little guy. For it is your legacy that continues to give the free world a chance."

Sure enough, Flynn has weighed in on Reed Irvine, for whom he used to work.

Reed held himself up to the same standard he applied to Dan Rather, Peter Jennings, and Tom Brokaw. His passion for accuracy was so great that in the twilight of his time on Earth, he noted a mistake on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? that led to a contestant's defeat.

With Reed, it was us vs. the MSM before we even TALKED about the MSM.

I first met Reed while a college student - and it's true - he fought the good fight DECADES before we were born - and in many cases, before we even knew there was a fight to have.
