DNC Convention Open Thread

The convention is opening up in Boston right now, with scattered groups of delegates hearing a Reverend's prayer to Almighty God - which surely can't stand well with the Pagans for Kerry group. It should be a busy evening - you can find the speaker schedule here - with the Clinton/Gore era as the featured speakers in authentic throwback style. Unfortunately, Teresa isn't on until tomorrow - but having seen her most recent antics, we know she's going to be all kinds of exciting!

For instant reax to the convention activity, consider this an open thread. We won't be doing this very often here at RedState, so use it wisely.

The Co-Chairs are gabbing by Ben Domenech

But this story popped up on the radar: apparently Al Gore's speech was junked at the last minute.  It didn't pass the vetting process - presumably, not enough emphasis on being "strong."

Or maybe... by Adam C

Or maybe too many Hitler analogies for a televised speech.

Bill Lann Lee by Ben Domenech

As the Corner has noted, one of the presenters tonight is Bill Lann Lee, whose ignominious fall from grace is well-documented.

Also, according to the Post, Fred Willard was entertaining the VA delegation with lines like this: "Virginia is a commonwealth, which is appropriate. If there's one thing that John Edwards and John Kerry have in common, it is wealth."

Dissent by recloyd

Man, I know it--I hate it when people can't agree.  That's what I love about the republican party.  No dissent--everybody sticks to the talking points and parrots the line through the SCLM.

Poor Dems--so out of the mainstream.

Which, I'm sure... by Ben Domenech

Is why none of the speakers at the RNC Convo will have differing attitudes about abortion, marriage, social issues, international issues, etc. etc. etc.

Roberta Achtenberg on CSPAN just now, speaking to the DNC: vigorously endorsing the Equal Rights Amendment.  Genius.  I demand more.

Is right here. It's a good piece by a VERY good Pittsburgh anchor man, Scott Baker. He was the only one to catch it on tape.

The Godfather, Pink Floyd's Dark side of the Moon, Richard Nixon, platform shoes, Bruce Lee, Columbo, crushed velvet, Elton John, Mustang Mach I, Fischer v Spassky, lava lamps, Disco ...

:-)

Whose idea was it to have the Tonight Show band playing clips from songs like "Soul Man" when the Iowa Secretary of Agriculture or some San Francisco councilman makes his way to the podium?

What happened to "Happy Days are Here Again?"  I liked "Happy Days are Here Again."  It was a convention song.  This band sounds like it is introducing a series of lounge acts.  "...And now, ladies and gentlemen, put yours hands together for the economic development stylings of the Mayor of Tallahassee!"

Incidentally, has anyone noticed the number of speakers introducing themselves as lawyers?  Or the number who have introduced themselves by saying they are not lawyers?

Should Be Dancing by Michele Catalano

There are few things less entertaining than old women in straw hats trying to rock out.

Hilarious by Angry Red

Hope it is not too off topic, but via NRO's Corner is this:

Dukakis II

Showed on CSPAN-2 today. I watched most of it. Truly awful.

But he got a nice round of applause for the ERA endorsement.

Ah memories by Thomas

Those were the days.

Does anyone know the statistics for use of the word "un-American" since September 11th?  With Teresa Heinz now added to the list, it seems to me that it has been overwhelmingly used by the left, despite their protests to the contrary.

(I refer only to uses of calling someone un-American, not the complaints that someone else used it)

John Kerry visits Al Gore in his cryogenic chamber.

"The insinuation is that Republicans consider wisdom weak--but you could just as easily suggest that Democrats consider weakness wise."
