In "Better Answers: The Case For Judao-Christian Values," http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=42234 Dennis Prager said....."There is an epic battle taking place in the world over what value system humanity will embrace. There are essentially three competitors: European secularism, American Judeo-Christianity and Islam. I have described this battle in previous columns."

Under the aegis of European secularism, Americans have been lured and seduced into liberating themselves from the social constraints of America's traditional Judao-Christian moral ethics, which served as both eternally unchanging moral anchor and as the anchor to objective reality. "This much needed liberation," we were told, "is a sign of social enlightenment." Thus an appeal to vanity started our civilization's descent into a man-created madhouse wherein selfcentered fancies and whims replaced objective reality, empirical truths, and common sense.

Our formerly well ordered, child and family oriented civilization, which had promoted the sanctity of life, moral virtues, clean-living, high standards, purpose, and reason began to decay into a cancerous sore oozing socially destructive poisons such as that mankind is but an animal with no purpose nor reason for his existence; it spawned concupiscence, gross disrespect for order, law, decency, and human life.

Where once we had a culture of life, we now have a culture of death that has given life to the Holocaust of the Unborn, wherein 40,000,000 plus unborn have been denied their humanity and inalienable right to life by being redefined as nonhuman objects in order that they could be disposed of in state sanctioned killing centers.

The unbridled ego and pride of sexual hedonists also gained control, and their unconstrained dark sexual fantasies incubated an insane conceit which claimed that fixed gender doesn't exist, and that in fact, mankind is gender neutral.

In this sexual libertines utopia, females can also be males, and males who are also females refer to themselves as 'queens, goddesses, bitches, sluts, and whores." These pseudo-females 'bitch slap' each other, wear female wigs, make-up, and dresses and refer to other males as 'husbands," who in turn refer to the pseudo-females as she and her. Other gender-liberated beings happily forsee the day when public restrooms and public documents will also be liberated from gender. Sado-masochstic porn flows like a river of filth throughout our culture and children have been denied their childhood innocence by being sexualized and homosexualized while simultaneously undergoing a sly social transformative process the purpose of which is to liberate them from their parents with the future aim of giving them the 'right' to have sex with the libertines who lust after them.

In this incubator of insanity, man takes perverse pleasure in seeing other's of his kind humiliated, debased, and obscenely degraded as evidenced by the proliferation of porn and by so much of what passes for prime time entertainment. Reality shows in which humans willingly allow themselves to be publicly humiliated and debased (masochism) in a variety of ways encourages viewers to feel sadistic pleasure in masochism. Much of what passes for popular music is nothing but ugly discordant noise that promotes hatred, sadism, rape, the killing of women and babies, racism, and social chaos.

Secular European atheism is killing what's left of our traditional culture. Sexually transmitted diseases are running rampant, even among our youth; the traditional family is under continuous assault; motherless and/or fatherless homes have become normal; children of divorce spend inordinate amounts of their time being shuttled from one house to the next; our sexualized and homosexualized children can't think or read, but they can put condoms onto bananas; suicide rates among our youth are rising; strange beings who seem not to know what gender they are haunt our malls; Disneyland is now infamous for celebrating "gay pride day;" so-called 'liberated' females look and act like sluts; 'hooking up' for casual sex is todays' version of a date on many campuses; some fast-food restaurants are accused of commiting genocide against chickens; Richard Dawkins opines that worms should have rights; SUVs and Bush are guilty of causing nonexistant global warming; being bad is good, but being obscene is better.

Welcome to Secular Humanisms' Brave New World.....the utopia of obscene genderless neo-man.

thought I submitted my thoughts successfully but apparently my first post didn't make it (put so much effort into it)  :)

So again in short - If "Secular European atheism is killing what's left of our traditional culture" how come the US is world-record-holder in "shelving moral ethics". Shouldn't everything be worse in Europe by your logic?

Unless you're living in a Hypocrite "Judao-Christian" alternate reality where black is white and white is black of course.

I understand your point about the decline of basic moral values and decency in the US, although I'm not sure it's quite as dire as you want to make out, or all that much different, or worse, than at other points in history.

That said, I don't think we can blame it on Europe.  My general impression is that Americans are quite capable of cooking up their own, home-grown decadence without outside assistance.

On the general topic of the worldwide clash of ideologies and grand battle between the worldviews, I suspect that, in purely numeric terms, the majority of the population of the world doesn't give much of a tinker's damn about either European atheistic secularism, traditional US Judeo-Christianity, or radical Islam, other than to hope that adherents of those ideologies leave them the hell alone.

Cheers -

Amos.....That said, I don't think we can blame it on Europe.

Treowth....All philosophies, ideologies and their founding concepts have a genesis.    The brand of secular humanism/atheism that operates in America has its' genesis in Europe......France and Germany in particular.   Of course the Franco-Germanic philosophies that gave birth to American secular humanism/atheism can themselves be traced back to the ancients.   But for the purposes of this article, and for ease of discussion, Europe was chosen as the locus.  Hence the name......European secularism.

Treowth....You speak as though you possess no worldview.   That's fallacious reasoning.    Everyone has faith and everyone is a 'believer'.

Regarding the European roots of secular humanism:

To the degree that the general Western tradition of secular culture has its roots in Europe, I suppose that's true, if only because there was no America at the time.

I really, really don't think you can contrapose Europe and the US as the homes of secular modernism and Judeo-Christian traditionalism, respectively.

Regarding the big clash:

No, I don't speak as though I had no worldview.  I agree that everyone, or close enough to everyone for the sake of argument, believes in something.  That's my point.

Your post cites an article that presents Western secularism, traditional Judeo-Christian American culture, and Islam as the "only" choices available.  I propose that, for an enormous number of people around the world, they have their own culture, beliefs, and values, and they aren't spending a whole lot of time or attention trying to decide between the three you mention.  To the degree that there's a worldwide "clash" between these points of view, I think most of the rest of world is just trying to stay out of it so they can go about their own business.

Cheers -

I'm curious about where I would personally be placed in your three moral system world view:

  1. I don't acknowledge the existence of any deity, and my morality has nothing to do with religion.
  2. As best as I can tell, my personal moral system is derived from the "Golden Rule": Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I realize that the Golden Rule appears in the Bible, but I think the rule is valid independent of any religious associations.
  3. I believe that there are valid family arrangements aside from the heterosexual nuclear families. I don't believe that there's anything inherently immoral about homosexuality.
  4. I waffle on my position on abortion. I believe that parents should not abort children when there are parents willing to adopt unwanted children, but I'm also unwilling to accord the same status to a week-old fetus as I would a third-trimester fetus.
  5. I believe that man is capable of self-improvement or self-destruction independent of the will of any greater beings. I believe that good and evil are useful, though artificial constructs. A good action is one that is in the spirit of the golden rule and evil are actions that are contrary to the rule.
  6. In terms of the questions of origins, I find the idea that man has evolved into his present state to be an inspirational idea. I look back at the races considered to be primitive ancestors of modern man, and I'm gladdened by the idea that some future races of men will look upon today's human race and feel that it's gotten better, just as we feel we have improved upon the likes of the cavemen.
  7. I believe that there is nothing inherently with two consenting adults engaging in sexual activities. I do believe that the participants must be aware of the potential consequences and be responsible for the outcomes of their sexual activities.
  8. I believe that men are dependent and depended upon in modern society. While I would hesitate to say that men have an obligation to better society, they do have an obligation to not make it any worse. I consider acts of charity and kindness to be virtuous and something worthy of emulation, but I don't believe that it is not possible to force men to be virtuous.
  9. I think that outside child bearing and raising roles, the concept of gender is as meaningless as race. While I do think the concepts of motherhood and fatherhood are valuable in a child raising environment, I also think that they are not requirements for successfully raising children.
  10. Despite our current problems, I do think that humanity is improving over time. I think that people (in general) look at the past in an incomplete manner and see what they liked about the past rather than what they disliked. As much as mankind struggles, I believe that we - as a intelligent species - are becoming more enlightened and virtuous as time progresses (though that process may be very slow). There's no other time that I'd rather live in than the present.

Treowth, given these ten items, which camp would you put me into? I would personally place myself in the secular camp, though I would disagree that my beliefs are obscene. Is it possible (in your view) for man to be moral independent of any god? Thoughts?

In 7 above, "nothing inherently" should read "nothing inherently wrong".

Also, "men" used above refers to all adult humans, male and female.
