I e-mailed both McConnell and Bunning on the issue of pork spending. McConnell's reply to me is here: http://instapundit.com/archives/026161.php
Sen. Bunning writes:
Thank you for contacting me to express your thoughts on the future budget implications Hurricane Katrina and Rita. (Double sic)
I believe it is very important that Congress act to limit spending as much as possible. The high const of emergency operations and rebuilding will only make a tough budget situation worse. I will fully support the people who have been devastated by this terrible tragedy, but I believe that budget limitations will require the federal government to tighten its belt and make difficult choices. All committees in the Senate will be reviewing the costs and budget forecasts in their jurisdictions. As a member of the Finance and Energy Committees, I have already started work on providing tax relief tothe hurricane victims and addressing the dangerous rise in energy prices. As the Senate considers future spending and budgets, rest assured that I will keep your thoughts in mind.
Thank you again for contacting me. Plese feel free to contact me at any time on any issue. I look forward to hearing from you.
Best personal regards,
Jim Bunning
