The Criminalization of Friendship

The Plame investigation and subsequent indictments have shown just how horrible the state of our country's politics are now in.
Libby is a "victim" of the prosecutor, according to one Mary Matalin on Fox News' Hannity and Colmes. Matalin, a personal friend of I. Lewis Libby, denied blatant partisanship on the part of special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald, but claims that "something doesn't add up" in the case. Hannity was there to back her up, while Colmes entered in with his own weak style of opposition punditocracy.
Meanwhile, millions upon millions of already predispositioned Americans are watching this edition of Hannity and Colmes. They are presented with no alternative opinion, and as such, they'll believe a weak lie, if only because their own partisan pundits presented it to them. While Mary Matalin is asking why this case has gone on for two years without a leak indictment, Patrick Fitzgerald explained exactly that, hours before:
[...] what we have when someone charges obstruction of justice, the umpire gets sand thrown in his eyes. He's trying to figure what happened and somebody blocked their view.
Did this get a mention on Fox News' broadcast? Did Hannity or Colmes speak up and present, in the prosecutor's own words, the reason why both these charges could not be dropped and why indictments in the actual leak were harder to pin down?
Patrick Fitzgerald did not indict because he was not in the position to do so. When you need a clear picture in order to responsibly indict an individual on very serious charges, you cannot settle for someone purposefully distorting the situation. Distortion is exactly why Fitzgerald was incapable of indicting, though he made numerous references to the fact that someone did in fact leak a CIA individual's information.
In the weeks to come, we'll start to receive a better picture of the story. Until then, please, don't put your faith in incompetant pundits. Talking point after talking point, for the past year, they have all been wrong; it was verified today. They are doing a great disservice both to our nation and to the future of independent thought in the way they actively lie and manipulate on-camera, with no repercussions. Turn the television off and go think for yourself.

You are right on my friend.
And having to read the comments from Kennedy, Kerry, etc. about "corruption at the highest levels of government" turns my stomach. These guys have no shame.
