Here we go again. From Democracy21's latest..

- NOTE TO THE MEDIA -

Enclosed for your information is a ''Dear Colleague'' letter sent today by Representatives Christopher Shays (R-CT) and Marty Meehan (D-MA) to all House members, urging them to cosponsor H.R. 4194, the Internet Anti-Corruption and Free Speech Protection Act.

According to the letter, ''This legislation would exempt communications by bloggers on their websites from campaign finance law and keep intact the soft-money ban on Internet advertising.''

The letter continues, ''On November 2, the House rejected flawed legislation, H.R. 1606, that would have fully exempted Internet communications from campaign finance regulation and eviscerated the soft money ban enacted by Congress in 2002.''

The letter states,''We want to make clear - no one, on either side of the debate, wants to restrict free speech on the Internet. Bloggers should be able to write and debate opinions without fear that they are violating the law.  H.R. 4194 embraces this principle just as clearly as H.R. 1606.''

According to the letter, ''At the same time, our bill would make clear that corrupt soft money could not be used by federal candidates, in coordination with corporations, labor unions, and wealthy individuals, and by political parties and others to buy Internet ads to influence federal elections.''

I'll have more on this tomorrow - but they continue to show their true colors. Only in Democracy21-land is a majority vote in the House a "rejection" of a flawed bill. What failed was a procedural vote to suspend the rules.

Their legislation would hardly protect bloggers, and I think we should spend plenty of time talking about this big fat flaming lie, "H.R. 4194 embraces this principle just as clearly as H.R. 1606"Um. No. Not even close. And for why - (I can't believe I'm about to do this) - check out this thread by Kos.

Don't neglect the scare quotes!

Remember.  Fred lied,  And freedom died.

I'm getting the tent. . .

Do you get a scarlet letter?  Loose a thumb?  Get waterboarded by the moderation star chamber 'janitors'?  I mean, thats an actual link, with positive emphasis, to the dark realm!

"The horror, the horror..."

the language in the 2 bills.

and what about the first bill got shays spooked?

As it now appears that the new bill will basically wipe out most politically oriented blogs.

Man, this congress is wack

. . . that they won't answer directly:

Could you please explain for us, then, whether DailyKos.com would be protected under HR 4194, given that your allies in the "reform" community have made clear not just once but twice that a website that has a stated purpose of helping Democrats get elected merits no protection from campaign finance law.
